Mansplain Monday (open to all genders):

Looking into crypto (in the anarchist/sexworker way not the mining way) as a payment method for my job. Any tips for beginners would be helpful! And no, I don't need a lecture on the ethics of crypto.

Specific questions:

1. What is cashapp bitcoin?

2. Common bitcoin...providers?? Idk

3. What to avoid

Thanks in advance, a very tired sex worker.

CashApp is fine. Don't Shitcoin. Bitcoin only. All other coins or tokens are scams.

Cash app Bitcoin is their department that deals with Bitcoin stuff. It is a custodial wallet, meaning they ultimately have control of your funds. You can take it off the platform, but Until you do, they have control over your funds.

For taking payments, maybe look into a wallet like Blue Wallet, which will help with on-chain and maybe look into something like Zeus that will help with lightning. (Although if you're completely new to Bitcoin, maybe avoid lightning for now because it's a whole nother rabbit hole.)

I would avoid custodians, wallets like wallet of Satoshi, cash app, Anything that does not give you access to your private keys.

More than happy to answer other specific questions but off the top of my head in a pre-caffeinated state and this is about all I'm coming up with it the moment.

hey! first rule is Bitcoin ONLY. don't accept anything else cause it's a scam. avoid all other "crypto".

I have a podcast I started with my husband that tries to simply explain everything (to women) so you can get started and not confused by the misinformation out there.

you can listen on any podcasting app. our first 10 episodes are super quick and explain the basics of Bitcoin. no ads/nonsense.

we are 3 years in so our more recent content may not help you but the first 10 are a great way to get started.

you can accept Bitcoin payments through cashapp if that's what you already have to get started. Eventually everyone will recommend you move to Strike or River which are Bitcoin only apps.

wishing you the best of luck. I know the Nostr community will be excited to help you. 💜

I think Monero is the only other good crypto that should be accepted since it has better privacy than Bitcoin does.

Oof. this is like a book worth of stuff. There really should be page or something for this question. There's just so much. And I may get some of this wrong. I am not a bitcoin person and mostly know about it because I'm on nostr.

A big question is how much are you talking about doing at once?

Bitcoin and Monero are probably your best bets. Bitcoin Lightning transactions are instant and easy. Lots of wallets to choose from. I personally like the Aqua wallet because its self-custody, and can do lightning, onchain, and liquid bitcoin transactions.

Several services let you easily turn bitcoin into spendable money via gift cards and other things like that.

Cashapp has a builtin custodial bitcoin wallet that makes it easy to buy and sell bitcoin with onchain and lightning transactions. But. If you turn bitcoin into dollars using cashapp it is a IRS reportable transaction.

I know less about Monero, but I have heard Monero is used a lot more for transactions that need more privacy as those transactions are untraceable.

Cake wallet seems to be popular wallet for it and is self-custodial.

Great start. Hashtag #asknostr for specifics. Our community is so generous and knowledgeable.

As stated below. Cash app is good. Use that for bitcoin only. If you want to self custody that's a different topic. A rule of thumb. Only accept bitcoin. Basically, Bitcoin is the "Richard Gere" character from Pretty Woman of crypto currency's.

Mansplain, as in you want us to make up answers?

I'm learning and am mostly commenting to follow this thread.

What I do know is that any app that asks you to verify your identity (KYC) will have records of your transactions, so Bitcoin exchange over cashapp is no more private than accepting dollars over cashapp.

All legal custodial wallets in the US must comply to KYC regulations, so that narrows the options for complete privacy.

What I would like to know is the best non-KYC wallet accessible in the US currently, or how to exchange self-custody funds privately (without using an exchange medium like cashapp or coinbase etc that are kyc)?
