This is fertile ground for someone stepping in and creating some PoS specialized hardware that emulates a card and process ecash when it's given to it.

Oh my god. This is precisely what we need. The receiver can be forced to run android and a native app, as long as the sender can use a simple ndef write (which iOS supports and android even from the browser).
