Privacy and OSS Update πŸ”₯

We have been hard at work unlocking the power of the DC-1 for the community, here are some updates you may appreciate:

βœ… Bootloader unlock tools & guides β€” full freedom to tinker and install what you want

βœ… Released kernel sources β€” now you can build, tweak & optimize with ease

βœ… TWRP support jumped forward β€” recovery development is well underway

And we’re not stopping there β€” here’s what’s coming soon:

πŸš€ Stable TWRP images β€” no more piecing things together; ready-to-flash builds inbound

πŸš€ Hardened ROMs β€” robust, privacy-first builds engineered for power users

πŸš€ Full Linux support on the DC‑1 β€” Android or Linux, your choice

Whether you're flash-happy or building your own distro, Daylight is crafting the tools to support the community's DIY spirit.

Stay tuned for more updates!

Nice!

Does this get us closer to running nostr:nprofile1qqs9g69ua6m5ec6ukstnmnyewj7a4j0gjjn5hu75f7w23d64gczunmgpz4mhxue69uhhyetvv9ujumt0wd68ytnsw43q4gnztg?

Closer yes, but will take different hardware to achieve that.

In the meantime we will be building our OS around similar principles ⚑️

That's great to hear, well done and good luck!

A short list of useful hardening features that make a serious difference for Graphene:

Zero-on-free with detection of write-after-free via checking that memory is still zeroed before handing it out again. https://github.com/GrapheneOS/hardened_malloc

Turn USB-C to power only (no data) when screen is locked.

Auto reboot after X hours.

Turn off WiFi/Bluetooth after X minutes after disconnect.

Hardened kernal.

Strong commitment to fast updates of drivers, kernal and OS to security patch level.

Dynamic code loading blocked.

Thanks!

Argh! Now I just have to buy one!

This is highly appreciated. Was close to trying to boot Android 16's GSI on mine but chickened out (and then got preoccupied with other stuff).

Daylight computer is starting to become an interesting project.

But my top priority lately is a device that doesn't willingly say misleading or confusing stuff in the marketing materials or UI.

Your device uses plastic for the exterior, so it would be really hard to meet my requirements because you'd have to give pretty obvious warnings that the device is not safe for everyday users, kids, household environments, etc.
