Paused my reading of The Mandibles for Xmas day: It's not exactly holiday reading.

It's one thing to know nothing stops this train. It's another thing to read through a detailed description of what the slow inevitable crash looks like: It's like the right brain equivalent of When Money Dies.

Just got When Money Dies for Christmas from my wife. Read The Mandibles a few years ago while on holiday, it definitely colored the holiday.

WMD is also interesting for *when it was written*: the US had just gone off the gold standard so there was interest in such a cautionary tale.

I ditched it. Struggled through the first few chapters - it just didn’t grab me and the character depth was way too detailed. Realized I just wanted to know what the scenario for hyperinflation looks like and we already have history to show us.

Read July 18th from nostr:npub1hqaz3dlyuhfqhktqchawke39l92jj9nt30dsgh2zvd9z7dv3j3gqpkt56s , it is perfect Christmas reading for me!

It is crime, mystery, bitcoin... love it so far!

👀

can't we learn from the past history, or should we rather do so due to the lessons from one?

Mandibles is not accurate because it will be right wing deathsquads that end the American dream.

I remember I found it entertaining. It is definitely an Xmas book - Xmas being the greatest capitalist holiday, and that book is definitely a tribute to capitalism. 😃 Enjoy!
