NEW TUTORIAL!

Just finished this one on Blitz Wallet. Very interesting approach to a spending wallet that I actually like.

Micropayments (sub 1000 sats) - Cashu mints/ecash

Medium range up to 500k sats - Liquid BTC & boltz lightning swaps

Higher values over 500k sats - will open a lightning channel

Basically you become more self sovereign automatically as your balance grows - without the need to manually manage the process (unless you decide to customize settings). Really cool! Check it out and share this around!

Fantastic 🫔

That sounds complicated Ben but when I’m ready, I know where to go always

Ha in the background it is, but luckily for the regular user you won't see any of the tricky bits - it will just work!

Amazing

How are fees with this approach? I feel like this kind of methods are easily more expensinve than visa/mastercard (just a comparison, I am not criticizing here)

Depends how you use it. I don’t think any Cashu mints charge any fees for Cashu payments. There is rug risk, but that why it’s a great choice only for small payment amounts.

Don't forget Visa/Mastercard fees can be 1-2%, with American Express being even higher...

On lightning I pay a lot less fees, the only thing is that in fiat the fees are hidden within the retail prices so they don't feel as bad šŸ˜…

With the architecture described for Blitz, you’ll have to pay Boltz swap fees or possibly channel opening fees. Also, sometimes swaps fail and sometimes your channels get forced closed. Custodial lightning is cheap for users. Self-custodial lightning isn’t, but I think that’s okay as long as it’s not hella expensive šŸ˜‚.

I used Blitz Wallet for a while. It's a little rough around the edges, but a very nice, reliable LND node wallet. And though I didn't try, I believe it can be linked to your nostr:npub1getal6ykt05fsz5nqu4uld09nfj3y3qxmv8crys4aeut53unfvlqr80nfm Hub node like you can do with Zeus. If you're looking for a true self-custodial lighting wallet that runs on Android, it's a great option.

Why won't it let me send ecash out? Sent 100 sats via minibits mint and now i can't send them back.

You receive 100 SATs you can't send 100 SATs out because of transaction fees. Try sending 50sats and see if that works.

I'm trying to send it back out as ecash. Doesn't seem like an option.

Like if I try and create a ecash token to send to another wallet?

You can only send out to an ln invoice

Blitz only uses ecash as a way to interact with LN not as a way to send ecash back and forth.

Oh fair enough. Thanks.

Super interesting wallet.

Micro payments go into a Cashu mint, medium payments go into Liquid, Large payments go into a Lightning channel.

As usual a great video.

I used the Aqua liquid wallet a couple of times to rebalance some of my nodes channels and avoid lots of small onchain-utxos in the process, this wallet seems like it might be a good alternative to that.

Was wondering though if you can explicitly receive liquid transactions.

Does the "choose format" button that we've seen let you choose what transactions to receive? Like, givin you a liquid invoice instead of lightning?

Interesting concept, but I tried everything I can to get it to send from the liquid balance and it stubbornly refused - kept saying ā€œcannot make paymentā€. I don’t really want to risk getting any more sats stuck in there trying to get a channel open. Clearly a work in progress, there may be some potential but it’s not there yet.
