Apple's position related to zaps will surely be copied by Google in the months ahead. Surprise, surprise: Greedy companies are greedy. I expect Amethyst to go through something similar with the Google Play version. Even if Android does offer ways to sideload the app, most people "don't have time for this BS" and will continue to use these app stores.

And it's their free choice to do so.

Gotta pay the bill, though.

Do you have a release channel on F-Droid?

If you really want freedom, use Obtainium. F-droid's catalog is also controlled by a central entity.

Didn't know about Obtainium 👀

It's nice and easier to handle than rss + direct apk download which I prefer tho

I think I really have to learn how to setup a degoogled phone.

Any recommendations or linkes how to do it right. I'm not that technical but I think I've to change that now!

https://grapheneos.org/

Fairly easy for non-technical folk. There are a number of helpful tutorials out there too. Here is one:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ywo-NT8K6B4

*one caveat is that GrapheneOS currently only works on Pixels. I have not experimented with other degoogled options.

Thx a lot fren 🫵💜🫂🤙!

I use a Google Pixel 👍!

So I'm good to go regarding to that.

Is it possible to use GrapheneOS with Obtainium? nostr:npub1gcxzte5zlkncx26j68ez60fzkvtkm9e0vrwdcvsjakxf9mu9qewqlfnj5z recommended Obtainium 👍.

I hope it will work with my phone.

Sill using the 3a 😊.

Unfortunately it looks like the 3a is no longer supported. :-/

https://grapheneos.org/faq#recommended-devices

But to answer your question, you can use Obtainium with GrapheneOS. The Aurora store is another option too, but probably also centralized like F-Droid.

Personally, I implement redundancy whenever possible, so having all three is prudent as long as you know the pros and cons of each.

"One is none, two is one, three is a guarantee"

Damn ... 3a not supported anymore 😔😭!

Thx a lot for your good recommendations!

Really appreciate it 🙏!

Did you perhaps mean LineageOS?

I wasn't suggesting Graphene is superior to all other options. It is just the only degoogled OS I have personal experience with. I'm sure there are other great options out there.

nostr:npub1n0aq6vafymeezu8rgyuluw2nsvwwf0e0qdpc9d2uvcfgclsf4d8s3qqu2z would likely appreciate other recommendations too. Always good to have multiple options to consider and research.

Use o GrapheneOS.

" usar um OS normal", o normal é subjetivo:

Look into GrapheneOS, iodeOS, /e/ foundation device or here's a quick guide to degooglize any ROM (taken from xda a whilr back).

"Note: This won't be too noob-friendly, so do your research before following this. If your phone catches fire, nothing I can do!

Also I'll be referring to LineageOS for microG as LMM throughout the guide

Safetynet also currently seems to be broken

Pre-requisites before using this guide:

- A phone ready for custom ROM'ing (unlocked bootloader, custom recovery installed yada yada)

- A user willing to sacrifice 90% Google apps (microG still has it's limitations you know)

- PC with everything ready (just to make the process smooth)

- TWRP backup of your previous ROM (just in case something goes wrong)

Let's begin!

Stage 1: Check and download

1) Check if your phone has official support for LineageOS for microG

2) If it's there; congratulations! Your life has been made 50% easier.

If it isn't, well, you'll have to check if you have official/unofficial ROM support for the standard LineageOS.

If that isn't there, you'll have to go with any other deODEX'd ROM (which means your results may vary compared to the one here)

3) Download the respective ROM zips, Magisk (for root) and Aurora Store.

If you're not downloading LMM, download NanoDroid Patcher (signature spoofing), NanoDroid microG (the microG package)

[Fun fact: If you're using the latest version of Magisk (which you should), rename the APK to "install.zip" to be able to flash it in recovery]

4) Copy the downloaded media to your SD Card (Internal Storage works too)

Stage 2 Option 1: If you have LMM support

1) Boot to TWRP or your TWRP fork of choice

2) Go to Wipe; Advanced Wipe; Tick System, Data, Cache, Dalvik and swipe # This will format your ROM + your app data

3) Go back; Install; Search for the Lineage zip.

4) Flash it.

5) Then flash Magisk and reboot.

Stage 2 Option 2: If you don't have LMM support

1) Boot to TWRP or your TWRP fork of choice

2) Go to Wipe; Advanced Wipe; Tick System, Data, Cache, Dalvik and swipe # This will format your ROM + your app data

3) Flash LineageOS / your ROM

4) Reboot your system

5) Do the initial setup

-> Check if you have Signature Spoofing support by installing this

-> If there's no Signature Spoofing support:

-> Boot to TWRP

-> Flash NanoDroid Patcher to patch your system

-> Flash NanoDroid microG and Magisk

-> Reboot your system

-> If there is Signature Spoofing support:

-> Boot to TWRP

-> Only flash NanoDroid microG and Magisk

-> Reboot your system

Stage 3: Post-Installation

1) Open microG settings app. Press Self-Check

2) Make sure no checkboxes are unticked. If they are, tick them

3) Go back; Add an account, do Device Registration and enable Cloud Messaging.

Also configure the location backends if you need location

4) microG setup should be done!

5) Now install Aurora Store, and configure it. (should be simple enough)

6) Grab yourself a good VPN and a nice wallpaper

[-] That's it!"

Uff ... I'll have to read this with enough time 😁.

Thx a lot 🫵💜🫂🤙

Good luck, if you need help, feel free to shout

Thx a lot fren 🫵💜🫂🤙

Will (have to) do that 😁

Does Graphene work on any phone that's not a Google Pixel?

Nao entendo esse proibiçao da fdroid. O app é open source.

F-droid is as centralized as Apple and Google are. Just with different rules. Use Obtainium if you really want freedom.

Hi again,

after the update from PS it seems I loaded the FDROID Version of Amethyst. Is that correct? 😅

(No translations anymore for example)

Yep... my bad :( I will fix in the next one

No problem. Everything works 💪.

Thank you for your answer and the incredibly good work!

I really appreciate it 🙏!

Apk of Amethyst are available on github release. You can install it from there, just like any other app.

Won't be surprised but would still be 🥲🥲

Ideas:

-auto update

-nos zap per default, but downloading a user script (Assembly script?) Enables it

-pwa

-copy ln address from amethyst and paste it somewhere easy for zaps

Ideas: share direct Installation link to friends via WhatsApp, telegram and others

Zaps have nothing to do with the apps though. It's simply a link format getting opened in another app. We need serious pushback, rather than compliance on this front.

Pushback is good. But a better push back would be to get Apple to allow a second app store.

It is waaay more probable that people learn how to jailbreak iphones lol

They will have to, in the EU at least.

Time for a nostr app store that complies with Applestore and Google store but lists everything we want.

What's the difference between that and f-droid?

In this one, the author of an app creates the app descriptor event. There is no central list of apps or catalogs. People can build their lists with NIP51. The best curator wins.

Doesn't it envolve more trust when downloading an app? Or less?

I am not sure what you mean. You won't have a central list anywhere. So, by definition, it's more free. You will either always need to trust the developers of the apps you use or keep reviewing the code at every release.

I meant the judgement an app passes to be list on f-droid, or on Debian repo for example, respecting certain aspects and principles.

Imagine a list of Nostr Apps curated by one’s web of trust! And imagine if your WoT could also curate a list of *categories* of nostr apps. One day a new category called “nostr apps that you can use to book AirBnB” could pop up that didn’t even exist before! Categories + items in each category, all updated in real time.

Or maybe your WoT comes up with categories called: safe to use, malware, and abandonware.

A simple list augmented by list categories is a “complex list” and is one step in the journey to convert a “list” into a “concept.” In addition to categories, a complex list can have other augmentations, like properties. (A list of Nostr Apps will need list-specific properties like: repo url, author, latest version, etc).

Pretty Good Apps currently implements simple lists. (Still some bugs and UX needs work, but basic functionality is there.) Complex lists are forthcoming.

My guy things are changing android users love the alternative app stores that makes up free hacky, excluse, or different! "Trust the process"

I will say it again.. we need something like #Linux phone. We are in "They fight you" stage for #decentralized apps and protocols. nostr:npub1cn4t4cd78nm900qc2hhqte5aa8c9njm6qkfzw95tszufwcwtcnsq7g3vle nostr:npub1gcxzte5zlkncx26j68ez60fzkvtkm9e0vrwdcvsjakxf9mu9qewqlfnj5z nostr:npub1xtscya34g58tk0z605fvr788k263gsu6cy9x0mhnm87echrgufzsevkk5s nostr:npub1sg6plzptd64u62a878hep2kev88swjh3tw00gjsfl8f237lmu63q0uf63m this is The battle we are about to face.
