Final idea of the day?

It maybe the case that, even if there is no overlap with another person, I get to see a thread or some posts because someone I follow boosted it.

In those cases, it would also be cool that my client puts a specific flag or something letting me know that I can't see that person regularly so I know I may need to go check for some extra relay

Maybe some clients would provide the following:

- There would be a service that keeps the most updated profile lists across as many relays as possible with the relays they have used for their latest posts

- Your client, would save your "Follows" and would check against that service if any of your follows switched to a combination of relays that have no overlap with you

- You can then check the people you follow and get a red flag or warning for those you may no longer see and what relays you should add

That service providing the list of profiles could be good so then you can search for people regardless of what relays you have and then decide if you need to add more relays or not

As #[0] sort of eluded to in another discussion, we need to ensure that Free Speech means exactly that. It's for everyone which includes Bitcoiners and everybody else

Most of us in here, are Bitcoiners and I'm having a lot of fun with all of you... but let's make sure we always keep that in mind... that free speech is inclusive of all different point of views and hopefully this platform will eventually unlock conversations of all kinds.

Yet, maybe for now it'll be mostly about Nostr and few things about Bitcoin

100% Agee that if we make Nostr conversation mostly about bitcoin we may scare some people away and lose the opportunity bring free speech to the masses. Yes, I’d love them to also love bitcoin but we need free speech to be welcoming to all people

Yes I agree .. it’ll eventually come to a point where clients or/and relays find out how to best serve users πŸ’ͺ

In a year where we had mostly bad news in the crypto space, Nostr brought us some fresh air and fun

We need to make 2023 a year where we start developing good discussions in here beyond Nost Development&testing. Let’s start talking about other topics as well, let’s make it a lot of fun

Happy 2023!

Fiatjaf is exploring ways to move to a new key without having to keep a state. The idea should be such that once you start signing to the new key there is no need to keep a state of all prior keys.. https://t.co/dQT6WrXkJ3

12 at night in Buenos Aires and it’s still around 30 degrees Celsius πŸ₯΅.. it was 37 during the afternoon .. I think we’ll go over 40 very soon these days

based on the discussion just now, I was selecting relays sometimes based on ping but now I need to select based on which ones are the most popular?. is there any stat around that that we can see?

interesting so you see a note from someone and then you broadcast it to your relays

It's fine with just getting latest feed.. you can have full discovery of people and comments and if you like someone specifically then you can specifically check which relays are storing that history.. or... if you are opening the app then you get the history locally

I think in the end it'll come to a centralization point with few global relays. Only option would be to have other services like the one I mentioned in another comment of having a relay that just gets feeds from many relays but doesn't store for more than X days. But at least you get the feed

if someone is not using same relays you simply don't see them.. so nothing to really add. You can evenutally add other relays they have that you don't

So then if you are only connected to few relays, there is also an important other factor that for some reason, not always the different relays "see" your post.. which makes "pushing" your posts to those relays that didn't see it more relevant...

For instance, this first post was only seen by 4 our 8 relays.. which increases the chance of this post not being seen by others.

Figuring out the right combination of relays based on the people I want to follow is tough because either we end up converging to only few relays or we'll need to have tons of them to have good coverage of edge cases

So as I said in another note, maybe there will be either some services that are mirroring from other other relays.. or .. there maybe some relays that don't store data but pass most of the global feed so you can at least get the feed and store it locally?

Still scratching my head around the fact that people will see what you share only if they have at least 1 relay of yours and what are the implications for having good discovery and consistent conversations. I made some tests with new users only connected to non overlapped relays and indeed I can't see anything from them, nor send any DM etc .... (thread)

Interesting.. I wouldn’t know where to start and don’t have time but.. just throwing some ideas around ☺️
