On October 31, 1517, an ordinary day in Wittenberg, Germany, became pivotal in history when Martin Luther, a German monk and theologian, allegedly nailed his "Ninety-Five Theses" to the Castle Church door. This act ignited the Protestant Reformation and transformed Christianity.

To grasp the significance of Luther's actions, we must consider the early 16th-century context. The Catholic Church dominated Europe, wielding immense power over spiritual and political matters. However, widespread discontent arose over practices like the sale of indulgences—certificates promising remission of sins in exchange for monetary contributions, often funding projects like St. Peter's Basilica.

Luther, grappling with salvation and faith, viewed the sale of indulgences as corrupt, undermining Christianity's core tenets. He believed salvation was a gift from God, attainable through faith alone. This conviction led him to draft his Ninety-Five Theses, challenging the Church's practices and calling for reform.

The Theses addressed issues like the misuse of indulgences, papal authority, and the need for a return to biblical teachings. Initially, it was an invitation for debate among scholars and clergy. However, the invention of the printing press allowed rapid dissemination of Luther's ideas, reaching a wide audience.

The Theses sparked intense debate and controversy, resonating with many disillusioned by the status quo. As his ideas spread, they inspired a movement to reform the Church and return to early Christianity principles.

Luther's act on October 31, 1517, is seen as the catalyst for the Protestant Reformation, leading to the establishment of various Protestant denominations and a significant shift in Europe's religious landscape. The Reformation challenged Catholic practices, emphasizing individual faith, scripture, and personal relationships with God.

In the following years, Luther faced significant opposition, being excommunicated in 1521 and declared an outlaw at the Diet of Worms, where he famously refused to recant. Despite the risks, he continued advocating for reform, translating the Bible into German and promoting access to scripture for all believers.

The impact of Luther's actions in 1517 cannot be overstated. The Reformation led to profound changes in Europe's religious, political, and cultural life, paving the way for individualism, questioning authority, and modern democratic principles. Today, October 31 is remembered not only as the day Martin Luther initiated a religious revolution but also as a symbol of the enduring quest for truth and reform against institutional power. Luther's legacy continues to inspire movements for justice, reform, and spiritual renewal worldwide.

This is so true. He wasn't in it for the green candles, he was in it to pastor souls, but no question in my mind that Luther would have been a bitcoiner.

Don't know the answer to that question, but I know one.

Credit though for proper plural form of Faketoshi. #bitcoin #satoshi

Here we go again...group says it will identifyi Satoshi today.

They're saying out loud what their intention is: build a CBDC. Interesting they reference "wildcat" banks of 1820s Andrew Jackson Era. (Government imposed its will then.) I can't recall if Trump stated a position on CBDCs and I'm almost certain Harris did not.

Huge if this comes to fruition. Huge.

I totally forgot about https://npub.pro until I heard it mentioned on a podcast this morning. It's so easy and clean. If you're on #nostr and don't know about it, maybe check it out. So easy to turn your nostr into a website like this: https://crrdlx.npub.pro/

Just wrote this in a reply to someone:

No doubt! We almost hit a bitcoin ATH today. Who knows what happens tomorrow?! 😀 On a somewhat related note, I just saw the headline below and thought this is really bullish all around. Now that BTC is in ETFs and making its way into retirement funds, it's definitely happening and reaching the point of no return (I think we're already there). It used to be where bitcoin was for the crazies. It's come to the point where it's irresponsible to NOT have BTC in your portfolio to some degree.

I made a VERY simple game-of-chance at https://wusang.vercel.app. It has a little pirate treasure story and a random chance to find an #ecash cache. With #bitcoin pushing all time high, who knows how much those sats will be worth one day?

Rookie questions regarding #meshtastic: I'm thinking about getting a unit to mess around with, but feel a bit overwhelmed. I hear about Heltec as simple and inexpensive starter devices, (1) are these only for chat type of applications (that's what I seem to see in vids)? Today I listened to a podcast talking about LoRa and how it may be able to mesh web pages as well, at least some point. (2) Is LoRa the same thing as the Heltec devices? And (3) could you point me to a for-rookies resource or two that won't make my head spin?

I can dig around but thought asking for tried-and-true resources might save me some time.

For some reason, I've always like gloomy Autumn.

I really like that new #satoshi statue in Lugano. Would have been really cool if a secret code was hidden in it, like a #bitcoin private key. I'm looking at all those bolts or rivets and thinking binary code could have been embedded.
