You are strolling down main street , enjoying an otherwise normal summers day.

A man, sharply dressed, approachs you in a state of panic.

"Please , I have a favour to ask you, hear me out. I'm late for a very important business meeting , and I took two buses to get here because my car won't start. I didn't have time to grab my briefcase, and I have some stuff in my pockets that makes my appearance look frumpy, you know , makes the material of my suit pants crumple up. Appearances are very important to the people I'm trying to impress. You couldn't just hold on to the things in my pocket and wait here for 15 minutes could you ?"

You are in a good mood , so you obilge the man , it doesn't seem like a big task. You place two outstretched palms in front of him face up in a recieving gesture.

"Oh , thank you so much"

He digs his hands into his suit pockets, which do looks quite full, and dumps into your cupped palms an assortment of things, some feel as small as a pebble and others as large as an orange, some feel furry and some feel smooth. You were expecting to be handed a phone or some keys or something similar, but before you can raise questions, the man closes your hands around the objects like a clam and squeezes tightly and says "please , if it's not too much to ask , don't look at any of this stuff, I really won't be long". The paniced man then hurries up the street and darts up some stairs into an important looking building.

You stand there for a couple of minutes watching the public flow around you in total disregard. Curiosity gets the better of you. Slowly, you unfurl your fingers to find :

what window manager or desktop environment?

I did distro hopping for like a full 10 years, building up different linux setups, destroying them, and building them up again. Creating backups in different ways…

But now i have one Void Linux installation, and an OpenBSD installation. I run the maintenance scripts i wrote once a month, and nothing else. Because Void is rolling release, and im running OpenBSD current, i haven’t had to do anything else for a LONG time.

Im wondering if some of my skills are atrophying because the systems are so stable…

I don't know what I'm looking at, but it makes me angry

I could have done that, and in fact we do have a ChatGPT sub. However, I personally prefer to do things on my own... Stubborn, yes, I am aware. But I fear that if I take the easy way out and everything goes south, I might be potentially creating more problems that I ought to solve. o.o

I can still ask it smaller things, for sure. But the bigger scheme of things, I'd rather read myself. ^^ It just feels... better.

Spent the whole day reading k3s.io's docs. Next up, the *actual* Kubernetes docs. RIP my brain... I am literally attempting to speedrun (not a good idea, i know) to learn this topic, because some of our most critical infrastructure is bound to this. Like, iunno, our time clocking? xD Wouldn't want this to fail.

Nearly three hours later and I still feel affected from watching a live firing. Or the aftermath, at least. Either my generally down-ish mood is a factor here, or I am just -that- sentimental? Whichever, I do feel rather thin-skinned today o.o
