Zone 9. Subtropical Florida. But mulberries grow great in a lot of zones. There should be some variety that grow where you are. I was told when given the cuttings that they are ever-bearing. They do grow fruit several times in a year.
We are pricing bird netting right now. We have a lot of fruit trees started on our property. And I'm sure the birds and squirrels will soon find them. Good luck with yours!
I love them too! And some day so will my chickens and cattle. I'm going to propagate a bunch more of them and plant them all over the property to feed my family and my livestock.

Happy Friday!
I'm enjoying a few mulberries this morning as I scroll Nostr.
I picked them last night from our 5 foot tall young mulberry tree. Our new food forest is slowly providing for us.
Every step forward, no matter how small is still a step in the right direction. May your path be clear and bright this morning!

I have a few answers here: https://ourfrugalfloridahomestead.com/12-questions-to-ask-before-you-start-homesteading/
You've inspired another blog post!☺️ Writing these articles helps me refine my book content. Thanks, and I hope this helps you and others learning about homesteading.
I see the last two dodo birds on earth sitting on the ground, having a conversation about extinction.
"Looks like this is it, Joe."
"Yeah, Bob, I guess so."
"You think the humans will ever figure this out?"
"Maybe, Bob.... Maybe."
"Sigh...."
"Sigh...."

Great questions! I've been working on answers to some of them. And you gave me a few new questions to answer. Thanks! I'll keep everyone updated on my progress with my book writing.
Regarding premium soil, that's difficult depending on the location of the homestead. I'm trying to make as much of my own as I can. Heavily amending with composted animal manure. Heavy mulching, chop and drop nitrogen fixers in my food forest. My soil sucks here in Florida, but where I grew up in Michigan, You could drop any seed in the ground. And it would grow as fast as a weed. Soil was so much better up in the Midwest.

Sippin coffee before another work day at the fiat manufacturing mine.
This morning's fun is joining picture frames.
No matter how mundane boring or frustrating, I try to find at least one good thing in the day. Making things with my hands has always brought some sort of satisfaction.
Have a good one.

Fruit trees are awesome edible landscaping plants! When I lived in the suburbs, many of my neighbors had beautiful fruit trees in their yards.
Thanks! We are designing our irrigation system for our 3 acres right now. 👍
I've never heard of Koppen climate classification, thank you for your suggestions!
Good morning #homesteaders ! 👋
I could use some help from you, my community.
I'm writing a book series about how to start homesteading.
If you had to start homesteading from scratch, or are still starting to homestead, what are the questions you are asking?
What do you want to know?
I want my books to be relevant and real. They need to help people, not just talk vaugly about general homesteading practices.
I've lived on 3 different homesteads throughout my life in 2 different climates. I have a lot of experience and knowledge. So, I can speak from experience.
But I feel I can best help people like you if you ask me directly what you think people should know when starting a homestead.
Thanks, this will help everyone seeking answers and help our community grow stronger.

I hope you all have a great day!
I'm off to making art, selling art, and managing production.
I'd rather be writing and gardening, but ... fiat pays the mortgage (for now 😉)

Good morning!
I see 2 Polish chicken (roosters) having a stand-off with a wooden fence in the background.
In the foreground I see the shadow of a hungry hawk zooming in to grab one of the distracted Cockerels!

Hey all👋
Just wanted to give an update on one our homestead projects.
After living on our homestead for almost 2 years, we finally got the eyesore blue building repainted to match the house colors.
This building was a single wide trailer house from the 1970s that we stripped down inside and turned into a workshop for my husband.
My husband painted it all by himself. I'm so proud of how he works on the homestead.
If you want to learn more about the restoration, I can put up some more notes with photos.
Photos: before is blue. After is beige.

"As the molten lava of the volcano spew from above, high up into the air, it fell just as quickly down into the ocean.
Great goplets plopping into the salty deep, hissing as they quickly cooled, swirled and twisted into random shapes driven by the heat, wind, and velocity of the explosion."
Excerpt from book 2: Remembering Mars - The first Trillion Years. 📖

Thanks, I'm familiar with that long trip. My daughter lives just outside of Knoxville. I'll be switching over to iced tea soon.😁
Thanks for this comment.
I just discovered nostr:npub1q4e23x480fcn2wpxh7ufl8h2mtd06g0ynjdeaqjgqtkn2pae2awsd95ftj ‘s homesteading website and Etsy store. Very cool stuff.
We’re working on some version of homesteading at 9,200’ in the Colorado mountains. There’s lots more still to do. It’s nice to be inspired by other’s success.
Thanks! Your Homestead sounds like a challenging environment!
Good morning! Thank you for the order. They're a yummy heat lover. I'm trying to find a lot of heat tolerant edibles to grow, eat, and sell.
Can you place just one order on Etsy? I'll just put an extra seed packet in the envelope... saves on shipping. You can pay me $1.50 in sats for the second packet. Seeds are not a big money maker on Etsy, costs so much to ship.
I'm also setting up my shop to sell pigeon peas. I'll send you some of those too to try.... free sample 😊
