This week @EducacionSV (MINED) took charge of bitcoin education in the public school system in El Salvador.

Why is this great news?

MINED is now fully capable of teaching bitcoin education in the school system, which means 𝐰𝐞 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐟𝐨𝐜𝐮𝐬 𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐨𝐧 𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐫𝐨𝐨𝐭𝐬, 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲-𝐥𝐞𝐝 𝐞𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧—and together we can teach even more people!

Let’s rewind…

My First Bitcoin began in August 2021 when there was no bitcoin education in El Salvador, except from the OG circular economy project, @Bitcoinbeach.

The first months we spent recruiting locals around the nation who were interested in teaching in their own communities—in houses, churches, cafes, parks, literally anywhere and everywhere we could. By early 2022 school directors began to ask if we could teach in their schools while they waited for a government program. We dove in, creating a new 10-week curriculum. There was incredible curiosity in those early days and as the first to teach about Bitcoin in the school system, we did our best to satisfy that need.

In late 2022, after plenty of real-world testing and improvements, we open-sourced the Bitcoin Diploma.

In 2023 the government used our Diploma as its primary source material to build its own custom version. We held classes for MINED admin and managerial staff and, along with Bitcoin Beach, we trained 500 public school teachers, who then began to teach in their own schools. After the last training group was finished in 2024, we told MINED that we believed they were ready, suggested they form a Bitcoin Department in order to really scale, and that we’d be happy to help.

Last week MINED instructed schools we were working at to cease activities with us, presumably because they are ready to lead. At one of the schools where we were teaching we had already told the students and announced publicly that we planned a big graduation for them at the end of April. @NodeNationSV has taken over the Bitcoin Diploma program there, and thankfully those students will still get a graduation the same week we had planned for them. Late April is also when two new workbooks for children (grades 2 & 3), that we collaborated on with the Little HODLer, will launch in the public school system.

It's been an honor to be a part of this. 𝐓𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐤 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐌𝐈𝐍𝐄𝐃.

Bitcoin education in the public school system has come a long way. Each year we taught more students in the school system–from hundreds to thousands to tens of thousands, and we are hoping that growth will continue with government and allied educators.

𝐎𝐮𝐫 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐚𝐥𝐰𝐚𝐲𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐞𝐦𝐩𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫 𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐬 to take charge rather than to dictate to them. Empowering others is Bitcoin; consolidating control is fiat.

This change will also allow us to accelerate the international work we began in 2023–creating open-source tools and frameworks that any independent educator can tap into. That self-governing network is now active in 𝟑𝟗 𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 and growing quickly.
