For example, since there are now people trying to ban the term "Dark Ages," I make a point of using it. Sure, some good things happened between 500 and 1000, but you couldn't invent a better name for this period if you tried.
Continue to use words that the kind of people who like to ban words would like to ban. It keeps the right of way open.

I don't have any direct evidence, but I've seen multiple kinds of indirect evidence that Google's AI projects are not going well. Especially the number of programmers that are trying to leave.
I've now talked to multiple startups building things on GPT-4 that they say would not have worked on 3.5. Each new version, a bunch of new companies become possible. This is how technology in general works, but it has never been so conspicuous.

If you want to make money from your own company or from working for someone else's, the high bit of advice is the same: learn to build things.

If the other side has that attitude, as professional ideologues so often do, you have to as well. That doesn't mean attacking them back. But it means not taking them at their word. You have to respond to their actual motives instead of their stated ones.

His mistake (a typically Canadian one) was to engage earnestly with her, while for her this was war. She didn't want to find the truth, just to hit him as hard as she could.
Why, as a founder, you shouldn't waste time responding to cold emails from associates. That email they sent to you was one of 150 they sent just this week.

Population density has a big effect on attitudes. In America it is one of the best predictors of voting behavior.

Part of the reason is the general lack of concern with quality of life. But part of it may be due to a more subtle cause: so many people in America live so far apart. You don't care so much about noise if your nearest neighbors are half a mile away.

Americans talk louder, cars and trucks are bigger and often deliberately made louder, stores and restaurants play loud music, people use loud gas-powered leaf blowers and hedge-trimmers in their gardens, trains and buses are louder.
There are some very obvious differences between the US and Northern Europe (the size of the people, the size of the cars, etc) but one of the subtler differences is that America is much louder.
