Merry Christmas fellow builders... this is my first post here on nostr.
I've been hearing a lot about this through various podcasts, especially nostr:npub1mrmu3s5889zcaqcqwxejx8gtkp9rwna7fq0vqezk4x22rnpr2gmsmfeyr9, I'm excited to start connecting with fellow bitcoiners.
In the real world I'm a math / cs teacher and a casual video game streamer on twitch.
However, neither of these spaces are optimal to discuss bitcoin related topics, so I've found my way here.
Going to try to shoot for one note a day going forward!
Any tips for a new nostr user to get connected? (Set up with primal on android so far)
Find a Nostr user you like and follow people from their follow list
Or, search the #Bitcoin hashtag, and then over time follow the users from that hashtag that you want to hear more of
It's a big deal that #Bitcoin is opt-in.
There's no bodily threat aimed at anyone; no demand it must be used - or else! ( Not dependent upon legal tender laws for adoption ).
We use it because we like it.
It has utility.
And our nodes are like our heads nodding together in consensus on this, as we agree to cooperate.
Don't like it? Make your own fork.

I see fiat everywhere now.

What is hard to fully grasp is the significance of absolute scarcity.
Digital scarce assets which can be owned, transferred, and audited, make a sound digital money possible.
This new absolute scarce money will devour fiat monies.
As fiat dilutes in value,
Bitcoin gets denser in value.

It's fun checking in on my #BitAxe every so often to see if this little number in #AxeOS has gone up:

#Bitcoin is ethical money

Gresham's Law:
"Bad money drives out good."
Meaning that when two forms of currency with the same nominal value exist, people will tend to hoard the more valuable currency (good money) and spend the less valuable currency (bad money), ultimately leading to the devaluation of the monetary system.

Sometimes we hear comments about the complexity of #Bitcoin self-custody.
I feel like I have a pretty good handle on that...
...but I don't understand most of the technical language of the #Microstrategy fiat printer.
Q: What's the only thing that's better than #Bitcoin?
A: More Bitcoin

#Bitcoin is a hybrid information stream, anchored to reality in the concrete world of physics by Proof-of-Work, and aligned with accuracy in the abstract world of information by mathematics.
Almost like DNA, it's physically-bound information.
So it's not fiat.
My #Bitcoin rabbit-hole journey, which started in 2021 with Coinbase's "free $30 credit for a shitcoin if you create an account with us", has led me further and further backward into history.

Proof-of-work makes Bitcoin a commodity money - the commodity being nature's own energy.
The importance of this money-trait was explained in 1786 by Thomas Paine:
--------
"I remember a German farmer expressing as much in a few words as the whole subject requires:
'Money is money, and paper is paper.'
"All the invention of man cannot make them otherwise. The alchemist may cease his labors, and the hunter after the philosopher’s stone go to rest, if paper can be metamorphosed into gold and silver, or made to answer the same purpose in all cases.
"Gold and silver are the emissions of nature: paper is the emission of art."

Yeah, I think about this! And then feel so incredibly fortunate/lucky/blessed that I found #Bitcoin (or Bitcoin found me).
At just the right time. Feels surreal.
I am continually impressed with your prolific posting
Blasting signal through the noise 💪
Day two as a #Meshtastic user!

Question for other users:
1) What is the significance of the lock icon next to each node in the node list? (I notice that some are yellow/unlocked, and others are green/locked.)
My clients seemed to be set to green/locked by default, while most others are yellow/unlocked.
How do I change that setting, and why might I want to?
2) Also, if I broadcast a message in the default primary "Channel 0", who can see it? Is it a public channel for any clients in hop range? What is the significance of setting that channel's encryption setting to "empty" instead of "default"?

I’ve been playing with the nostr:npub1v5ufyh4lkeslgxxcclg8f0hzazhaw7rsrhvfquxzm2fk64c72hps45n0v5 beta Nostr integration for a couple weeks and it is SICK.
One simple example: I post a Fountain link on Nostr to a nostr:npub10qrssqjsydd38j8mv7h27dq0ynpns3djgu88mhr7cr2qcqrgyezspkxqj8 episode and my note appears within Fountain under that episode. INTEROPERABILITY FTW 🔥
#ZAPATHON TIME: grab an episode of “THE Bitcoin Podcast” on fountain, post it here on Nostr, tag nostr:npub1cj8znuztfqkvq89pl8hceph0svvvqk0qay6nydgk9uyq7fhpfsgsqwrz4u and nostr:npub10qrssqjsydd38j8mv7h27dq0ynpns3djgu88mhr7cr2qcqrgyezspkxqj8 and I’ll #zap you #696 sats 🫡

Edit: forgot the link
Here's nostr:npub1cj8znuztfqkvq89pl8hceph0svvvqk0qay6nydgk9uyq7fhpfsgsqwrz4u 's original episode of the nostr:npub10qrssqjsydd38j8mv7h27dq0ynpns3djgu88mhr7cr2qcqrgyezspkxqj8 podcast on the difference between cryptos and #Bitcoin:
Before the #Bitcoin rabbit hole, I had never known that banks could loan out money that they did not have (or even further: money that did not previously exist)
I'm glad that you share your thoughts and observations on Nostr.
I still have XTwitter on my laptop, but removed it from my phone.
The end result is I'm on Nostr much more, following only people and topics I choose and not getting all the other adjacent news that comes in to the feed.
It's been good. Feels healthier somehow.
I think about #Bitcoin all the time
