It's exactly what I mentioned yesterday. Just offering a slight discount compared to credit currency prices would be enough.
There are those who want to create a world where payments are made in Bitcoin for a better society, and then there are those who try to delay Bitcoin payments as much as possible for their own economic benefit.
In fact, there are merchants who charge more when accepting Bitcoin, and I really can't understand what they're thinking. It makes me wonder if they're in their right mind.
I understand that the Lightning Network can operate without third-party risk (assuming one does not make mistakes), but this is a bit difficult to grasp.
I know this might be an unpopular opinion in Nostr circles, but I genuinely think it's better to delay using Bitcoin as much as possible and spend fiat first.
Yeah, yeah, I get it – Bitcoin isn't just an investment, it's actual money, blah blah blah. I agree with all that. But let's be real, the day we'll have to use Bitcoin for everyday stuff is inevitably coming, isn't it? Fiat will eventually be rejected by merchants, for sure. A day will come when we have no choice but to use Bitcoin, even if we'd rather not, simply because that's all they'll accept.
But I also get that Bitcoin is more than just a way to preserve our wealth; it’s about building a more just world, and that transacting with it is a necessary part of creating that better society.
So, here’s an idea that could satisfy both sides: if you're selling something, offer a discount for paying in Bitcoin. My point is, we all pretty much take it as a given that Bitcoin's price will be up in the long run. But as for next month? Who knows if it’ll be higher or lower than it is today, right? So, if paying with Bitcoin right now gets you even a small discount, there's really no reason to hesitate using your Bitcoin, because that immediate saving makes sense regardless of short-term fluctuations.
Honestly, the most ideal situation would be not giving a damn about the fiat price of Bitcoin at all and just saying, "My product costs X satoshis." But, with costs still being in fiat for most businesses, expecting that right now is probably a bit harsh.
However, what's the deal with pricing things in fiat, then multiplying by the current exchange rate for Bitcoin, and then charging slightly more for the Bitcoin payment? I find that kind of ridiculous, to be honest.
Easy for bitcoiner
It's been a long time since I started converting my entire paycheck to Bitcoin, right after my card payments. lol
I first learned about nostr with the introduction that it's a social media version of Bitcoin. However, I felt that this doesn't guarantee nostr the same inevitable success as Bitcoin, and that decentralization could even hinder its growth.
For decentralization to work properly, the issue of spam needs to be addressed, and ultimately, to solve that, users would have to pay money for long-term sustainability. While this isn't a major problem for Bitcoin, I felt it could be a significant issue for social media.
Would people really be willing to use a model where they have to pay even a small amount of money just to post a random thought on the internet? I was a bit skeptical, but after seeing how easy payments can encourage spending through nostr zap, I’ve become somewhat more optimistic.
It seems like nostr:nprofile1qqsth7fr42fyvpjl3rzqclvm7cwves8l8l8lqedgevhlfnamvgyg78spzpmhxue69uhkummnw3ezumrpdejqz9rhwden5te0wfjkccte9ejxzmt4wvhxjmcpp4mhxue69uhkummn9ekx7mqqdtrej is trying to make this work somehow, and I truly hope they can succeed.
Yesterday, I permanently lost the private key to my original Nostr pubkey. I was using #amethyst and noticed something was off, and it turned out #amber had lost the private key. This happened exactly one week after I, in an effort to enhance security, had consolidated all my scattered private keys to sign exclusively through #amber using NIP-46.
While managing the private key in one place did reduce the attack surface, which was good, losing it meant I had no recourse. I knew I should have made a backup, but I deeply regret thinking, "It's a hassle, I'll do it later."
In hindsight, I think it would have been fine to have the private key on a couple of devices, like my main phone and computer, or to have made a really secure backup.
I haven't been active on Nostr for a particularly long time, nor did I have many personal contacts there, but it still feels like I've lost a part of my identity. It's not just a feeling; it's a reality. If Nostr becomes a mainstream solution for identity verification in the future, this issue will become even more critical, especially for those who have invested significant effort in building their reputation.
If you've been managing your private key without giving it much thought, I urge everyone to check on it today.

I’ve built a service that backs up nostr events. More precisely, it synchronizes between relays.
There have probably been similar tools before, but what sets this apart is that it strictly synchronizes based on the outbox model. Well, maybe something like this already exists too, but who cares? The world is full of similar programs anyway.
https://tajava2006.github.io/sync-nostr-relay/
The usage is simple: just enter your npub and press the sync button below. From that moment, it starts going back in time until there are no more events to fetch, syncing the relays as it goes. It queries notes in chronological order and republishes them only to the relays where they’re missing.
It syncs the posts I’ve written only to my write relays, and the posts I need to read only to my read relays.
This whole idea was inspired by this post I deeply resonated with:
nostr:naddr1qq2nskt2w9vx6dznfdvj64rpw4mk5nmxf3v9xqg4waehxw309aex2mrp0yhxgctdw4eju6t09upzp978pfzrv6n9xhq5tvenl9e74pklmskh4xw6vxxyp3j8qkke3cezqvzqqqr4guvtytln
Because of that, the sync feature is not provided to users who have registered too many relays.
This should be helpful when you’ve changed your relay configuration and want to back up your past notes to newly added relays.
