I don't have such rule. If I need capital to open a new channel I either add new capital or if that is not possible at the time then I might consider to close the channel which hasn't routed anything for a while. I hate closing channels and do it only rarely.

I have channels which have been dormant for month and suddenly they start moving sats. LN is very dynamic, channel connections and routing cost constantly change. When things line up sats start to flow. Some days I'm routing 20-30 and other days 500 payments.

Im not chasing the highest possible forwards, I don't care much of I make or lose a few sats, for me it's just a hobby and not a business.

My node now runs pretty much autonomously, everything is automated so I don't need to spend too much time on it. I've just been away for 5 weeks and all ran smoothly without my intervention. Almost set and forget.
