I'm writing a blog piece about the Digital Markets Act in the EU, and legislation of the same name in the UK. As well as others laws in play or on the horizon to regulate digital services.
So what does the fediverse think of the #DigitalMarketsAct?

Why are there laundry appliances in some kitchens, when it's way more practical to put them in the bathroom? I find it gross, to the point I wouldn't willingly live in a place with a combined kitchen/ bathroom.
How do we connect with rural communities, and help our fellow kiwis pull themselves out of the extreme right-wing rabbitholes they've been pulled down?

How do we connect with rural communities, and pull our fellow kiwis out of the extreme right-wing rabbitholes they've been pulled down by targeted social media manipulation? Coordinated by the US think-tank-industrial-complex, funded by the likes of Peter Theil and the Koch Brothers (well, the surviving one).
#Watching Paprika, Satoshi Kon's final film as a director. It's a feature length anime released in 2006, based on a 1993 sci-fi novel by Yasutaka Tsutsui.
Wondering if the novel or the film may have influenced Christopher Nolan's screenplay for Inception...

Yet there are people who casually throw the word "apartheid" around to describe examples of Tino Rangatiratanga (Māori self-determination). Things like self-management of media, health, education services, open to all. Recognition of mana whenua in local government. Māori co-governance of public services.
I find it curious how these same people are horrified by the supposed "misuse" of "apartheid" to describe the treatment of Palestinians by the state of Israel;

The power to Silence accounts, or whole domains of them, is as necessary as the power to Unfollow or Unsubscribe. They're all ways we curate our own social media experiences, avoiding digital pollution like spam, flooding, angry rants, dogpiles, etc.
That said, probably contentious #HotTake...

This applies to those who vote against implementing the recommendations of the Independent Electoral Review...

Putting aside basic compassion for fellow humans, this is why even the most conservative white, working-class people should oppose anti-immigrant laws. Such laws help bosses keep *their* pay and conditions down too. Because they can always threaten to give the job to an immigrant and pay them less than the legal minimum.

> Some things banning it just drives it underground and more dangerous but the Tories don't care
It's not that they don't care. That implies they don't know what they're doing. They do.
They very intentionally use prohibition laws to remove the protection of the Rule of Law from groups of people they want to control and exploit. Immigrants, drug users/ suppliers, abortion patients/ clinics, sex workers etc.

"While social justice organizers like Judi Bari opposed the right-wing of [Earth First!] from within the movement, the radical left-wing author and activist Murray Bookchin promoted social ecology, directly opposing EF!'s anti-humanist "Deep Ecology" philosophy and rebuking the conservative "buckaroos" of EF!"

#Listening to the first Alice in Chains studio album, Facelift, released in 1990. Not a big fan of this one. It's too long, and none of the songs stand out from the pack as they do on Dirt, released 2 years later. I don't know the self-titled 1995 album as well, and it's even longer. But there's more variety in the tracks than on Facelift.

#Listening to Mike Love's album 'The Change I'm Seeking':

Most people have seen or heard the HI*Sessions performance of Permanent Holiday, from 2013. But Mike is far from being a one-hit-wonder. This album is full of skillful, and deeply expressive tunes. My new favourite jam is Movin' On, with its gorgeous falsetto harmonies.

> I wish mainstream "developers"
The scare quotes around "developers" makes it clear you have an axe to grind. So there's probably no convincing you of the many reasons web-based forges are useful.
But here's one. Web-based issue trackers are way more accessible, to most of the people you want to report issues. As you pointed out yourself in another recent post, making reporting issues really complicated can stop people from filing them.

FYI i believe you can interact with GitLab issue trackers using command line Git. Same with wikis.

At a BBQ, you're gathered there because of direct relationships that persist. The group chats that happen there are ephemeral.
In a boardroom, you're there in service of group relationships that are persistent, eg the company you work for. While direct chats are ephemeral; they're just work chats. Unless and until people you meet through work become familiar and trusted enough to invite to your BBQs.

Yes.
> Second, how do you measure it? Third, what is the measurement
If you knew the basic numbers relevant to climate science you wouldn't need to ask. If you want to understand you can look it up. If you don't, nothing I say is going to overcome your bias. No skin off my nose either way.
