Trying to get into #python some more and playing around with #webdevelopment and #javascript - being a beginner with this is just painful, #js doesn’t feel intuitive at all, #html feels WAY too wordy, #css is fine, and I keep getting #vscode errors on python
This all feels like something I should have learned years ago and feels like it should be easy - but I just can’t get it… eurgh…
Helping out new users over the last days made me realize that the largest hurdle for new nostriches is building your own feed. Most users expect there to be some sort of out of the box feed (curated by an algorithm).
Currently most clients are not doing much to support users to find new profiles to follow. Hashtags are the only way to find content and profiles, but if you are new, you don't even know the hashtags.
IMHO we need:
- Suggested Hashtags for new users (I've created nostr:npub1ceq89j69ckn52pfngnm2sasf6t5z3j24c5pel5klnhs4e5r7cmlq5l6k9l to spread this information)
- Trending hashtags (for news and current events)
- A way to subscribe to hashtags
- Suggested profiles (not just the top 50, but based on topics).
What are your thoughts on this?

Makes sense - I signed up yesterday and the onboarding experience was bizarre. I thought I’d wandered into some kind of Crypto scam for a bit
I suppose there is no reason a client couldn’t do that - it would just be a case of reading whatever you’re typing and maybe some recently used tags and selecting them
They actually are - not sure why I find it so jarring and unexpected
I feel like being able to follow specific communities here would be useful… I suppose that’s one of the benefits of Mastodon - could make things a little cleaner
People seem super friendly as well which is nice!
I must say though - people on here have been way more helpful than I’ve seen elsewhere - so thanks all!
