Nostr Web Client

Helping out new users over the last days made me realize that the largest hurdle for new nostriches is building your own feed. Most users expect there to be some sort of out of the box feed (curated by an algorithm).

Currently most clients are not doing much to support users to find new profiles to follow. Hashtags are the only way to find content and profiles, but if you are new, you don't even know the hashtags.

IMHO we need:

- Suggested Hashtags for new users (I've created nostr:npub1ceq89j69ckn52pfngnm2sasf6t5z3j24c5pel5klnhs4e5r7cmlq5l6k9l to spread this information)

- Trending hashtags (for news and current events)

- A way to subscribe to hashtags

- Suggested profiles (not just the top 50, but based on topics).

What are your thoughts on this?

Absolutely. We need to recommend topics and then topic-based users. We already have designs for this, just needs to be implemented.

I kind of think hash tag all that stuff is not the correct path. we need relay-native curation. follow relay, not people, not hashtag.

we need more diversity relays. and a way to identify those relays that you are interested at. but the very first step is to let user switch relays easily. that's why I do the relay selector on the global level on flycat. just release today. would love some feedback.

The UI looks a lot better than last time I logged into flycat. also I like how compact the relay selector is

Only feedback I have is it would be good to have some visual feedback that switching relays had some effect. right now when I switch the feed stays the same

thx for you feedback! that's a great advice. it is not stable yet so you might need to refresh page after switching relays. also try checkout the explore feed that might provide more different feed on different group of relays

I know for myself having the ability to subscribe to hashtags and have them on my main feed would be really nice.

UX needs some work on a lot of clients. It's not intuitive for new users how to navigate Nostr.

Having a list of suggested hashtags pop up especially during your first few posts would be nice.

I suppose there is no reason a client couldn’t do that - it would just be a case of reading whatever you’re typing and maybe some recently used tags and selecting them

Makes sense - I signed up yesterday and the onboarding experience was bizarre. I thought I’d wandered into some kind of Crypto scam for a bit

We are currently working now on improving this very same issue.

We plan to introduce various curated or predefined timelines including hashtag timelines for less experienced users. Advanced users will be able to customize or create completely new timelines with comprehensive filters. Either from following profiles, global, hashtag or pubkeys.

We already have list of suggested profiles to follow in Plebstr. I admit it has very narrow topics and it is not customised to specific areas of interest of each user.

Hashtaga a great idea.

We also can benefit from:

- sharable relays/predefined starter follow lists- user curated and preferably available from your app.

-more mastodon connectivity,ditto bluesky

-app "stores" that make it easy for users to see nostr's broad functionality base- nests, streaming, music, etc... I like this platform but keeping up with all the micro developments is 😵‍💫

Also some kind of feed algorithm that one self hosted or something would be really good. On Twitter there is an addictive quality of searching and finding good people ( not as good now that views of followed accounts are limited)

Most people I know on here I find on twitter..and I find I have to go manually look again and again- main feed here is kinda bad even with a good list of accounts.

This is an issue in all networks. Even today if you create a new Twitter account or a Facebook account, only random stuff shows up to help people build their feed. We will most likely have Nostr client specifically designed to find contacts, and topics of interest and organize/build lists of things people want to see at once in other clients: chat + hashtags + streams + feed + communities + private groups + workspaces + reels. Every one of these interfaces will have a set of follow lists. There is a lot of work yet to do. :)
