That breaks down when you take into account gerrymandering. The politicians in essence do elect themselves when they create with scientific precision these spiney ink blobs of voting districts. The people don't choose their politician, the politicians choose their voters. The more they win the more they can gerrymander as the winners create the districts. This creates an environment where they are not afraid of losing their seat to the other side but instead the threat is being displaced in your own party, driving ever more extreme positions.

Maybe proof of work/vanity npubs could be a better solution to spam than PoW notes

PoW notes can really degrade performance/UX if we want it to be sufficiently high to compete with spammers

I used AI often when it became powerful enough to write code, but this excitement quickly wore off after lots of time wasted reviewing the code and fixing bugs and removing garbage. Nowadays I may ask AI some random questions if I don't quickly find my answer searching the web or let it solve a small very contained problem.

Are you still using AI for coding? Does it really save you time?

I love this train of thought. 💯 I'd add two-income households to the list. They take away important time that one spouse could devote to important work in the community. I coordinate Sunday School in my church (and teach most Sundays), but I also have a full time job. Plus I volunteer on a couple other Town committees ... and I have my family. Balancing these responsibilities requires constant vigilance against burnout.

This may explain why it seems like most of the volunteers these days are retired folks.
