nostr:npub1evlasggt6pl44vxp49fns8cjy2xxqgfk6akqqrwkqa4rj588xmhqt6yenf I truly despise the gatekeeping that comes along with a lot of these groups. I have tried to join multiple local and online groups that I thought would be welcoming, but it ended up being 90% ‘there is only one right way to do this using this one specific piece of gear’.

I agree that it really sucks the joy out of creating. I got to point that if people were spouting off ‘only one right way’ I’d try the opposite to see what happens.

It's fucking bullshit, innit?

The most awful thing is that the loudest voices in those circles are often the least productive musically, so they're not even speaking from experience.

Whereas, most actual working musicians I know are the most evangelical, the most inclusive people!

Music is the BEST thing ever - why would anyone want to gatekeep it??

Off-key amd off-tempo are easy to detect, but no one can tell right away if you are storing their data in an unsecured S3 bucket, not even other IT folks.

Y'see, in my experiences, most audiences don't even notice / care about missed beats or notes *as long as the whole band is happy and smiling* and the vibe is good.

And then there's the essential rule of live music: hit a wrong note? Play it three more times and everyone will think you did it on purpose and you will be a jazz legend.

Because, really, there are no wrong notes / beats. I say this as a non-ironic Shaggs fan.

nostr:npub1evlasggt6pl44vxp49fns8cjy2xxqgfk6akqqrwkqa4rj588xmhqt6yenf I'll have to defer to your wisdom on her assets & charms - but she does prance about in a Union Jack top in it, if that's a selling point to anyone.

There's also a voyeur of a sheriff, a hot shirtless Sheffer in a leather jacket + an interstellar hunk or six in pink so I guess we're all set to "C'mon, Barbie, let's go party". :pansexual_heart:

Soo, using my hooge Sherlock-brain (google), I just worked out that when I first heard of Pia Zadora, I would have been 14/15 and she would have been 26/27.

I was most definitely seduced by the charms of The Older Woman. She would teach me the ways of LOVE, also possibly French poetry and how to DANCE THE TANGO IN THE PULSATING ETRUSCAN MOONLIGHT.

I wish I could say I'm less foolishly romantic now. But that would be a lie.

nostr:npub1evlasggt6pl44vxp49fns8cjy2xxqgfk6akqqrwkqa4rj588xmhqt6yenf I suppose the issue in IT is there are always shortages of people with the right skills so it’s easier to get away with being sub par than as a musician.

nostr:npub19dp9um2zqefaepyr8pphfgcjkf6mc0f5ag75ndyt9fszdepw9c5qt2zwzj

The weird thing is I've met many musicians who are technically brilliant but are absolutely *atrocious* at music. Zero feel, can't improvise - they're stiff and... correct. In the worst ways.

I can't think of a way that someone is technically brilliant at tech and yet still awful at it. But I know you'll tell me if there is. :-)

nostr:npub1evlasggt6pl44vxp49fns8cjy2xxqgfk6akqqrwkqa4rj588xmhqt6yenf well it’s thankfully not the case that IT is a solo gig. Very few places rely on a single person, so there is always some self correcting going on. It’s a messed up industry though with its obsession with youth and novelty, seldom learning from mistakes and often reinventing the wheel. 30 years for me next year. Sigh.

nostr:npub1evlasggt6pl44vxp49fns8cjy2xxqgfk6akqqrwkqa4rj588xmhqt6yenf the concomitant phenomenon in IT is the sad folks who have every single AWS certification and more. They generally aren’t any more able to deliver solutions than folks with no certs but who’ve gotten real world experience.

nostr:npub19dp9um2zqefaepyr8pphfgcjkf6mc0f5ag75ndyt9fszdepw9c5qt2zwzj

If someone's a terrible musician, you just get a bad gig.

But if someone is awful at IT... well... *shudders*

nostr:npub1evlasggt6pl44vxp49fns8cjy2xxqgfk6akqqrwkqa4rj588xmhqt6yenf Should be if it's the same name, tho I just glanced at the start, seemingly the full version instead of the other trailer I thought you maybe picked.

Pia Zadora, Jermaine Jackson 'cameo', Craig Sheffer from Nightbreed, Tom Nolan etc. Peter "Optimus Prime" Cullen voicing the robot, as I keep forgetting?

Stray Cats vs Devo style bands etc.

Synths galore if nothing else, right from the start. Catchy.

PIA ZADORA

fuck me, I haven't heard that name in decades hahaha

Might as well have Sam Fox in it. :ablobcool:

I would have hoped in IT that if people were just blowhards that they'd soon get found out. But no? That's very dismaying.

I like to think of us both as hapless miscreants in a Harlan Ellison short.

Either that or I'm Burgess Meredith losing his glasses.

I'm Burgess, aren't I?

And I'll be like, "David, can you kindly pass that roast haunch of Gates?"

And you'll be like, "Sadly, I cannot, Jyoti, for I am loading up my plate at the *Warren Buffet!*"

And we shall both laugh and growl and then yip into the sky whilst swallowing down their greasy gristle.

nostr:npub1evlasggt6pl44vxp49fns8cjy2xxqgfk6akqqrwkqa4rj588xmhqt6yenf I'm on the Behringer group, which is mostly people going 'Can you make a clone of the Fairlight for $299' and some other random synth group which I idly look at and see the Clarksons.

I'm trying to convince the Hakai people to set something up that's actually functional, IE, not Facebook.

haha - so you see what I mean? WHAT IS THE POINT?

On all the photography groups, it's the same: men wanking on about lens MTFs and *never ever taking pictures*

Try Voyage of the Rock Aliens?

'So bad it's good' 80s MTV era version of 60s beach party movies, except it's aliens, battle of the bands, a homicidal maniac subplot & a tentacle monster looking to hitch-hike to Loch Ness. As one does.

Meant to drop this for extras for birthday, anyway. :blobcat_party:

(It's all free on YT + other trailers, 2, but those maybe reveal too much, if that matters.)
