WHERE DID THE MAYA AND AZTECS COME FROM?

Charles Étienne Brasseur de Bourbourg (1814 - 1874) was a 19th-century Flemish abbot. In addition to his clerical profession, the French abbot is universally known for his significant contributions to the knowledge of Mesoamerican peoples. In fact, Charles Étienne Brasseur was also a famous writer, ethnographer and archaeologist who specialized particularly in the study of the Maya and Aztec civilizations.

According to the scholar, the Maya remembered their homeland as a "continent located in the Pacific," and which had later sunk. They called this continent by the term "Land of Mu."

Until a few years ago this was thought to be just a legend. But the advent of satellites proved that it was all true. In fact, present-day Indonesia and Australia are 'remnants' of a much larger continent, which scientists call Sundaland. This continent located in the waters of the Pacific Ocean was partially submerged beginning 14,000 years ago, when the Pacific Ocean rose about 140 meters.

How did the Maya know about the "submerged continent" in the Pacific Ocean? Was it just an incredible coincidence? Or were their ancestors really from Sundaland?

Again, if we would only listen to science, and not to our prejudices, the Maya would be absolutely right. Their ancestors did come from Sundaland. How do we know for sure? According to Kenneth M. Olsen, PhD, a biologist specializing in plant evolution at Washington University in St. Louis, we have irrefutable evidence that navigators from the Sundaland and Sahuland area managed to get as far as Panama, Central America, in pre-Columbian times.

The 'living proof' is the presence of the coconut in the Americas. This researcher has found that all coconut plants, wherever in the world they are found, originated either from India or from the area that used to be Sundaland. Moreover, the professor explains that, at least as far as great distances are concerned, the coconut plant does not migrate naturally, as seeds of other plants do. In its case, it has to be taken by human beings to other distant areas in order to take root there as well. If the coconut plant arrived in Central America in pre-Columbian times, it means that sailors from the Sundaland area arrived in America before Columbus and planted it. There is little to argue against that.

On this day in 1981, Mötley Crüe released their debut album, Too Fast For Love! The initial pressing was limited to only 900 copies, which sold so well that their label (Leathur Records) released two more pressings over the course of the next few months. Their popularity soon caught the eye of Tom Zutaut, who signed the band to Elektra Records in early 1982, resulting in a more polished re-release of the album in August of that year. The first pressing of this album tends to be quite valuable, so here's how to tell if you have the real thing:

https://youtu.be/utyXQqZ35do

- The record labels are white with black lettering.

- LR-123 printed on the spine of the cover.

- Very thick and stiff cover.

- Vince has big hair on the back cover and on the insert photo.

- The hair was touched up so it would show up against the white background, just a little too much (Vince couldn't believe his eyes when he saw it).

- There are no sunglasses in the middle of the back cover as on the second and third press.

- Nikki's arms are crossed at his chest on the insert photo, he's pointing his arm straight out on the second and third press.

There's also a counterfeit version of the first press out there. Here's how to tell it apart from the original:

- Matrix numbers are scratched out.

- The cover photos are slightly blurry.

- The song titles from side 1 are not listed on the back cover.

- Sunglasses on the back cover [no sunglasses on the original].

- On the label the word Come in the song title 'Come On And Dance' is spelled Comme.

- Vinyl bag is in clear plastic.

- No insert or lyric sheet.

- Made in Japan

"The Symposium" is a philosophical dialogue written by Plato, dated around 385–370 BC. The work is set during a symposium, or drinking party, where a group of notable Athenian men gather to discuss the nature of love (Eros). The dialogue features several prominent figures, including Socrates, Aristophanes, Phaedrus, and Agathon, each presenting their own perspectives on love through a series of speeches.

The central theme of the dialogue is the exploration of love in its various forms. Each speaker offers a unique interpretation, ranging from the physical and romantic aspects to the more philosophical and spiritual dimensions of love. Socrates, as a key figure in the dialogue, employs his characteristic method of questioning to delve deeper into the nature of love, ultimately leading to a more profound understanding of its significance in human life.

One of the most famous speeches is by Aristophanes, who presents a mythological account of human beings originally being double beings, split in half by the gods, and their quest for their other halves as a metaphor for love and desire. The dialogue culminates in Socrates' recounting of a teaching from Diotima, a wise woman who describes love as a ladder of ascent, where one begins with physical attraction and moves towards the love of wisdom and the divine.

"The Symposium" is not only a foundational text in the study of love and desire but also serves as a critical examination of the philosophical pursuit of truth and beauty. It has had a lasting impact on Western thought, influencing subsequent philosophical discussions about love, ethics, and the nature of human relationships. The dialogue's rich interplay of ideas and its engaging narrative style continue to resonate with readers and scholars alike.

Figure on the main entrance to the Pena Palace at Sintra, Portugal, sometimes known as 'Coral Gate'

The Triton is a mythological monster that is half-man and half-fish. Just like the monster, the gateway is also divided between the aquatic and terrestrial worlds.

The aquatic world is on the lower floor: the Neogothic arch is decorated with corals that hold up three shells with the Triton sat upon one.

Above, we pass into the terrestrial world as demonstrated by the tree that is born out of the head of the Triton, set within the grape vines that cover all of the protruding window that the monster seems to be holding up.

Taq-e Bostan in Kermanshah province is a must-see on traveling to Iran narrating one of the most sublime parts of the history of Iran carved on the stone.

Taq-e Bostan (Persian: طاق‌بستان, Kurdish: تاق وەسان, lit. 'Arch of stone')[1] is a site with a series of large rock reliefs from the era of the Sassanid Empire of Persia (Iran), carved around the 4th century CE.

This example of Persian Sassanid art is located 5 km from the city center of Kermanshah. It is located in the heart of the Zagros Mountains, where it has endured almost 1,700 years of wind and rain.

Originally, several natural springs were visible next to and below the reliefs and arches, some of which are now covered. Springs next to the reliefs still feed a large basin in front of the rock.

The site has been turned into an archaeological park and a series of late Sassanian and Islamic column capitals have been brought together (some found at Taq Bostan, others at Mount Behistun and Kermanshah).

The carvings, some of the finest and best-preserved examples of Persian sculpture under the Sassanids, include representations of the investitures of Ardashir II (379–383) and Shapur III (383–388). Like other Sassanid symbols, Taq-e Bostan, and its relief patterns accentuate power, religious tendencies, glory, honor, the vastness of the court, game and fighting spirit, festivity, joy, and rejoicing.

Sassanid kings chose a beautiful setting for their rock reliefs along a historic Silk Road caravan route waypoint and campground. The reliefs are adjacent to sacred springs that empty into a large reflecting pool at the base of a mountain cliff.

Taq-e Bostan and its rock relief are one of the 30 surviving Sassanid relics of the Zagros mountains. According to Arthur Pope, the founder of the Iranian Art and Archeology Institute in the United States of America, "art was characteristic of the Iranian people and the gift which they endowed the world with."
