Not a software developer, but am a bitcoiner. Here are some of my phone ideas for developers to consider:
1)Open source OS that does not spy/collect info on users, and has the following built in natively:
A) Nostr protocol
B) Lightning node (I would allow the phone user to download bitcoin core pruned node themselves if they choose (full node in future if tech permits), rather than having phone manufacturer pre-load as to prevent a centralizing force?)
C) Option for Tor natively
2)Apps are purchased and distributed via Nostr protocol relays. Users of the phone purchase the app with bitcoin lightning payment, as lump sum or subscription per app developer request (a way for apps to differentiate, compete, or offer users purchase options). The revenue is split to some degree between the relay host and the app developer (cost for relay to host/offer app for sale is zero, which would foster decentralization thereby increasing access, and revenue is recognized at time of user purchase).
3)Native user friendly PGP (pretty good privacy) open source software to allow phone users to verify all app downloads and updates prior to installation. (I think Nostr implements public private key check for social interactions already?)
In terms of overall business model:
Users always have the option to purchase the phone directly from designer/manufacturer.
No more free apps (Nostr protocol, lower barriers to competition will keep prices reasonable and app options plentiful).
Why? Because we all know nothing is free, unless it is charity/building stage, without data collection, mandatory ads, or privacy invasive ads to any degree. Marketing that does not request/obtain your personal info or IP address, and instead only able to purchase ad space on webpages based on webpage content without knowing the users likelihood of visiting said webpage I guess is ok (similar to tv ads).
I’m willing to pay for privacy, freedom, and the reduction/elimination of algorithmic manipulation.
Apple is on the wrong side of history. Will, your doing amazing work 💜🧡. They will never take a 30% cut of my bitcoin/30% fee on my speech. They’re trying to maintain a moat around Apple Pay, more recently their Goldman sachs savings partnership. Wish I knew how to code. I previously converted multiple family members to switch to apple. I will now focus my attention and money solely on open source, privacy, freedom tech, and away from the opposite of this, including ad-based business models. Will encourage others to do the same. Looking forward to continuing to use Damus, zap profiles, and will obviously opt for editions, such as your hinted “freedom edition”, that allow zaps without restrictions, whether it be a PWA, desktop, or competing OS. I’m well aware nostr is a protocol and they’re other options and will dabble, but I’ve really liked Damus as my first and only nostr client thus far. Maybe one day Apple will wise up, but probably not until it hits their bottom line.
