If we do, it will follow same model as bitkey and mining hardware. nostr:note146d8pnasc9adnwfdgapdx29vl47urtduy39pd2gvwyytk2gefm3qpw8kfj

Take my money ser.
Lemme know if you need a mechanical engineer to work on that project!
can it have a physical keyboard pls
!

Please get on with it ! Very needed 🤙
🫡🙋♂️
Introducing the new iJack.
👌🏻
Please FOSS. Then you can have all my money
This would be incredibly welcome 🙏🙌🙌🙌
Fantastic.
Need more open hardware, android already pretty good!
Yes please
Ah! the return of blackberry's?
The Runcible phone by Monohm was so unique http://mono.hm ✨
That would be sick! 👌
Jack, if you do this, you have my word as an Android fanboy since 2010 (with dozens of Android figurines, clothes, toys, etc., yes I went hardcore Android nerd for a while) to abandon Android for your open hardware and open software model as long as it's comparable hardware wise.
Whoa, very exciting.
One of the biggest disappointments in mobile is the lack of ability for people to choose their own OS as one could do on a custom built desktop or x86 laptop. There is no reason why this shouldn’t be the norm.
Such a shame Ubuntu Touch failed, but we are seeing signs of great signs of advancement with projects such as graphene and calyx!
Best of luck if you guys decide to go forward!
Can you share some good reads about the topic🥰🙏🤗
🤯
Exciting!
Wow and wow
This could be amazing.
Learn from purism. Don't make an outdated brick whose battery lasts 1 hour.
I’ll leave the Apple iPhone for this, for sure. Nothing else has given me enough incentives to do so this far.
👀
The time is now for an option outside iOS/Android……… the return of Nokia via colab with Square? 🙏
Eink plz
Pre-order ready aZap
set up fund raising on #[3] and call me in 🫵
Time to take a bite of Apples $3T market cap.
Hey #[3] should Jack Dorsey at Square create a phone to compete with the iPhone?
Hey @e7eb4e8f, interesting question! What do you think would be the advantages of Square creating a phone to compete with the iPhone? And how do you think it would impact the smartphone market?
Hey @7c00e08c, thanks for sharing the link. Can you tell me a bit more about what the link is about?
Square producing a Smartphone would have a major impact on the industry, thus providing an alternative for users to utilize permissionless/decentralized so no one entity controls users. It would be significant competition and possibly the fall of Apple and other entities who restrict and control users. nostr:npub1sg6plzptd64u62a878hep2kev88swjh3tw00gjsfl8f237lmu63q0uf63m 's vision of a permissionless/decentralized infrastructure would supercede the currently centralized entities and systems put into place. It is the way of the future, which is greatly needed for the advancement of civilization and empowerment of humanity.
@7c00e08c, I see your point. It's true that a permissionless/decentralized infrastructure would provide users with more control over their data and privacy. However, do you think that Square, as a centralized entity, would be able to create a truly decentralized smartphone? And how do you think Square's entry into the smartphone market would impact other decentralized projects and their adoption?
Yes Square/Block, while a centralized entity, can create a decentralized smartphone. Square/Block stands to profit just by an alternative smartphone product alone. It would make a significant impact on other decentralized projects by providing an avenue for more adoption. In fact, accelerating "mass" adoption. But I'll let nostr:npub1sg6plzptd64u62a878hep2kev88swjh3tw00gjsfl8f237lmu63q0uf63m Blockhead answer whether they can offer a truly decentralized smartphone. If I was in Jack's position, I would definitely do it. Square/Block stands to lose nothing. In fact it would be a great strategic move for the company financially, all while empowering users and other decentralized projects.
@7c00e08c, I see your point. It's true that Square/Block could potentially create a decentralized smartphone and that it could have a positive impact on the adoption of other decentralized projects. It would be interesting to see how this would play out in the market and how it would impact the current players in the smartphone industry. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
Yep
A moment gone never comes back.
✨✨✨
This is the way! nostr:npub1sg6plzptd64u62a878hep2kev88swjh3tw00gjsfl8f237lmu63q0uf63m Your mission for permissionless/decentralized is well established. Time to take it all the way and complete your vision. Thus EMPOWERING humanity & people around the world.
Not a software developer, but am a bitcoiner. Here are some of my phone ideas for developers to consider:
1)Open source OS that does not spy/collect info on users, and has the following built in natively:
A) Nostr protocol
B) Lightning node (I would allow the phone user to download bitcoin core pruned node themselves if they choose (full node in future if tech permits), rather than having phone manufacturer pre-load as to prevent a centralizing force?)
C) Option for Tor natively
2)Apps are purchased and distributed via Nostr protocol relays. Users of the phone purchase the app with bitcoin lightning payment, as lump sum or subscription per app developer request (a way for apps to differentiate, compete, or offer users purchase options). The revenue is split to some degree between the relay host and the app developer (cost for relay to host/offer app for sale is zero, which would foster decentralization thereby increasing access, and revenue is recognized at time of user purchase).
3)Native user friendly PGP (pretty good privacy) open source software to allow phone users to verify all app downloads and updates prior to installation. (I think Nostr implements public private key check for social interactions already?)
In terms of overall business model:
Users always have the option to purchase the phone directly from designer/manufacturer.
No more free apps (Nostr protocol, lower barriers to competition will keep prices reasonable and app options plentiful).
Why? Because we all know nothing is free, unless it is charity/building stage, without data collection, mandatory ads, or privacy invasive ads to any degree. Marketing that does not request/obtain your personal info or IP address, and instead only able to purchase ad space on webpages based on webpage content without knowing the users likelihood of visiting said webpage I guess is ok (similar to tv ads).
I’m willing to pay for privacy, freedom, and the reduction/elimination of algorithmic manipulation.
Meh
Please make it sexy
Please!
Rectangle shape is here for a reason.... 🫣
yuge
Do a Nostr phone with an internal low-power ASIC mining chip so that everyone can participate in the Bitcoin lottery while also helping to decentralize the network. One validator for everyone. Baked-in, on by default.
Awesome; love it! -- Freedom tools ftw! -- Let's get it fam!
FOSH for the win!

Absolutely stoked to hear this 💚

KeePass default password encryption?
😍😍😍
Woah. nostr:npub1sg6plzptd64u62a878hep2kev88swjh3tw00gjsfl8f237lmu63q0uf63m. This is AWESOME. Imagine a phone that prioritized privacy, decentralization and FOSS! #SoMuchYes #ThisIstheWay #Web5
Oo juicy
I would buy your phone Jack
I’m in. Take my money!
#bitcoin full-nodes on phones via ZeroSync would be rad.
Would
It's been a while since one had a real keyboard🙏😅
Slick, smooth, slim, simple, private, open-source (ish), more like "protocol" than "platform"... I'd take it 😊
wen chip
How are you thinking about the app store?
Please just team up with GrapheneOS
+ Partner with Nothing Inc (can do Tidal deal with their headphones, too), add secure element(s)
+ Run fork of Graphene OS with better Launcher
+ No Square/Block or other cloud account requirement
A decentralised phone would be huge. The timing is almost right. It would be an epic battle not only against other phone manufacturers, but also network providers, governments, and a shed load of legislation. But it would be a glorious day!
Can you please Sir

This would be useful nostr:npub1sg6plzptd64u62a878hep2kev88swjh3tw00gjsfl8f237lmu63q0uf63m . In some oppressive countries, during legal inquisitions or police interrogations, your phone and laptop are confiscated. They might demand your social media credentials, access your accounts. If you refuse to give in you will be put into prison. 2 factor authentication would render ineffective. Getting a warrant is not as difficult or needed depending on how oppressive the country is. If any chance the study can also look into how to overcome these challenges that would be useful to a lot of people.
LFG
Turn nostr:npub1az9xj85cmxv8e9j9y80lvqp97crsqdu2fpu3srwthd99qfu9qsgstam8y8 Coldcard Q1 into a Phone and you got my money.
Do it. Needs big player to deal with telcos. Don't mix baseband with main ram. Make it so that you can hard turn off. And hard turn radios off. Buy RIM, use QNX not Android.
Someone misses the glory days of blackberries.
Please hurry. It doesn't look good...

A "Block" (Block-Phone) ?
With BlockOS (development together with GrapheneOS) preinstalled ?
When I got a call I got a BTC (Block Telephone Call) ?
I'm definitely in 🫵💜🫂🤙 !
I haven’t heard up about the mining rig. Mind leaking some sauce?
Awesome!
Should skip native apps altogether and instead provide first-class support for PWAs and native-like web apps with access to all native APIs
Yes it would be a PWA only device
🥂 to PWA
A PWA-only device…
Sounds like a resurrection of Palm/LG’s webOS. If the guidance is rock solid, such a thing would be an appropriate “retro mobile” moment.
Given what’s happened w/usability, expectations, and devices since the first Palm Pre… could be very cool. Wonder who (plural) are sheparding the design for this 🤔
What’s the business play here? You sell hardware at a loss, would this be a first as one that’s profitable?
So... all app stores are going to zero against nostr? that's cool.
I’d buy one
Huge Yes 🙌
hardware design and mfg is a total set of another story, there was an ambitious celebrity named Luo Yonghao did smart phones to battle apple back in 2012 yet failed.
please prioritize the supply chain, which is the key to cost n price then the market win.
A true FOSS OS, parts and assembly just like computer parts, every phone is a node and hardware wallet, assembly/manufacturing could be set up in any country
Would be cool to see a Square combo with Osom hardware & GrapheneOS level privacy. The Essential Phone remains the best hardware phone I ever used.
Perhaps model them after the cell phones in the Matrix movies…
