Mountain Lion. Utah Department of Natural Resources estimate there are about 2700 adult "cougars", with a statewide population of around 4000.

These cats, as adults, can be 30 inches in height at the shoulder, and approximately 8 feet long from nose to tail. The tail of the Mountain Lion is about one-third the entire length of the body. They usually weigh between 75-175 pounds.

Adult cougars typically prey on deer, elk, moose, mountain goats, and wild sheep, with deer being the preferred and most common prey....

Still makes me nervous, as our dog is out roaming our 3 acres without a care in the world...

They are most active from dusk until dawn.
