Just do some research and you will find way too many bad actors who have been rationalizing these scams in the name of "free market".
Inscriptions and Runes demand may have gone down significantly but they are still spamming #bitcoin as bad as before. 
You could potentially prevent a lot of monetary txs going into these blocks by replacing them in the name of Runes or Inscriptions or any other jpeg bullshit and most of the bitcoiners would keep saying that it's a free market and whoever pays the highest fees gets the place in the block.
Note that states could potentially use these jpegs and runes to create DoS attack and it may be too late before most of the bitcoiners realize this.
Moreover, if you are noderunner then it's also wasting your resources along with lot of other noderunners' resources so, this would basically be considered abuse.
If you understand #bitcoin properly (and not with the fake free market principles) then you can just see here how easy (& cheap) it is to do a DoS attack by spamming the blockchain with junk data.
Run knots instead of the #bitcoin core to disincentivize this behavior.
We didn't have any other ways to stop playing this game before 2009 but now there is a way to stop playing this stupid game.

We already saw that high fees didn't reduce spam and now we are also seeing that low fees also don't reduce spam.
Legitimate bug in #bitcoin core has been exploited by bad actors and some of the core devs are taking bad actors' side in the name of the free market.
Some of the core devs could be compromised and before it's too late, start running knots instead of #bitcoin core to protect the health of #bitcoin network.

Bitcoiners would have been in a much better place if they spent more time talking about mining pool centralization than future upgrades.
Mining pool centralization is a much bigger issue than a scaling issue for #bitcoin.

The more I see fiat clown world from outside, the more I realize that people consciously and/or subconsciously chose convience and optimization instead of decentralization and self reliance which led us here in dystopian world.

One of the major issues with #bitcoin is a lot of plebs rely so much on influencers' opinion before they form their own opinion on something.
Is there any way to mitigate this issue?
They still haven't fixed legitimate bug which enabled spam on #bitcoin.
I hope more and more plebs run #bitcoin knots instead of #bitcoin core on their node as you might have clearly seen that some of the core devs have been compromised.
