That's a lot of rain!
I'll try to remember it's there. It's on the far side of nothing from where most of my growing space is π
It prevents evapotranspiration while the roots re-establish. The roots aren't trying to pump water up to the leaves to keep them from wilting, and there should be enough energy in reserve to regrow the leaves. That's the theory as I remember it anyway.
Got a bit done today in the garden. Of note:
This is my indeterminate tomato trellis design for this year:
This is a bed with determinate tomatoes, borage, Italian and Thai basil, and parsley. I'll be seeding in a row of bush beans on the weedy half sometime soon.
#garlicstr bed is the nicest looking bed so far. Garlic, shallots, lettuce and other greens, and a metric crap-ton of volunteer cilantro.
Lastly, here's some cute lil baby winecaps popping up in the indeterminate tomato bed.

Sepp Holzer said to do it. This is a pear tree that grew from a branch I used as a row marker two springs ago. I didn't get it transplanted over the winter (thanks appendix) and it was growing in the bed I'm going to have tomatoes in.
Anyhow. I dug it out, pruned about 1/2 off the top due to root damage digging it up, planted it at the edge of a woods area, and stripped every single leaf off - which Holzer says (and it makes sense) cuts down on transplant stress. We'll see how this works.

Looking real nice. I like the fire engine red greenhouse, that thing pops!

I think modesty encompasses both still, because I think it's about not showing off, whether it is showing wealth through the expense or relative social status through one's appearance. Also, if i remember correctly, some of Paul's encouragement towards modesty is addressing cities where temple prostitutes were very wealthy and showed it by their clothes and braiding gold chains into their hair. The implication could be "don't dress like a prostitute," which can lead to a more modern-evangelical purity culture definition.
Either way, by showing off the expense of clothes or by revealing oneself seems to be jockeying for status, which seems to go against the spirit of modesty.
I think this is mostly right, but I think the modern church has been guilty of reductionism. I think purity and modesty are about more than sexuality, but they aren't about less than sexuality.
Because money isn't actually called "the root of all evil," instead "the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil," which is pretty different.
They were the cups I grew out the seedlings in. I labeled them with the varieties, so they're the temporary plant markers until I make note on my paper plan with what got put where.
