Getting a free Nostr verified NIP-05 ID with ok0.org is now easier!
The tool no longer requires that you update your profile with your desired username prior to registration, in recognition of some clients not being compatible with that approach.
You can now simply register your desired username@ok0.org and update your profile afterwards.
Please only register a NIP-05 ID if you intend to use it. Usernames that are not in use will be deleted periodically.

It is still going strong as a fast, free and increasingly spam resistant relay. I do not believe in building walls around the garden, so you will not find Cloudflare or IP blocking here.
I'm also excited to announce that you can now sign up for a free NIP-05 verified Nostr address as you@ok0.org - You can register yours at https://ok0.org/nip05/
Please make sure to follow the instructions as the tool does check if the NIP-05 ID on your Nostr profile is currently set up to the one you are trying to register. This is done as a way to verify that the npub belongs to you.

Running this relay is my contribution to the Nostr project, rather than an attempt to earn money or anything else.
It's a fun project and I get to use the relay too - it's the relay I'd like to see, so to speak. There are numerous relays on Nostr, but most are walled off to some degree. I was surprised to find that there weren't actually that many reliable free relays, so I'm doing something about it.
It doesn't really cost me anything since it's running on already available resources that are underutilized.

This is true, it's a delicate balance. I have no intention to make it strict. I try to be very targeted with the write policy and resources are not a problem at the moment at all.
wss://n.ok0.org is just over 6 months old now.
During this time it has relayed 607,178 events and counting.
Over the past two weeks, the relay has received 1,167,367 requests, 14,768 visitors and transmitted 133 GiB of data.
wss://n.ok0.org is free and will remain free. It is actively maintained and has an evolving write policy to combat spam as much as possible.
