Just a humble user of #Bitcoin and #TheNostr, exploring and learning! #Austrich

It's a type of AI or workflow that sits on top of Nostr. You engage with it, and it returns some kind of data. The acronym means Data Vending Machine.

In practice you could have any kind of request return any kind of response (like a DVM could use an AI to return some image or text, or translation), but what the OP is talking about here are DVMs that act as "algorithms" to return different types of event feeds.

A few of these I've used are like "show me the most popular posts by people I follow since I last logged in", or "show me global most zapped posts over the last 24 hours", etc.

It's very cool and useful that there will be a market for these algos, so you can really tailor your Nostr feed to what you like.

I had a thought the other day...

Governments get involved in all the financial transactions in order to tax them. Your company makes money, it gets taxed. You get paid a salary from the remainder, it gets taxed again. You spend it on something, it gets taxed again. That company takes it in and it gets taxed again. Over and over, tax after tax after tax. And all of this requires complete loss of privacy, they have to know all of your transactions so they can tax them accordingly, and the accounting and compliance costs spawn a huge financial industry which is actually.... entirely unnecessary.

Instead, all this loss of privacy, all this compliance cost, all the tedious filling out of tax forms where you aren't sure if you are doing it right and they hope you do it wrong so they can also collect fines and interest... the whole thing could go away.

And I'm not talking about anarchy. I'm talking about a funded government that doesn't need to collect taxes.

Just use inflation: The central bank prints 3% more money each year and gives it to the government.

Now before you all yell at me about how inflation is a horrible thing... this is a compromise. It is far better than the invasive tax systems we have today, and if the amount of money government gets is fixed by a constitution, and the fiat system (there would still be one) didn't expand via fractional reserve lending but only by this predictable monetary inflation, it strongly prevents government overgrowth, and also moderates boom-bust interest rate cycles, and still stimulates economic activity because the currency continues to lose value.

This is just the start of a crazy thought. I haven't thought it through deeply. But I do really like getting rid of the invasive tax compliance back-monkey.

There are a number of good jurisdictions without personal tax, and often also without any reporting obligation. For a company or trust the privacy and low compliance cost is a major part of the appeal and part of the consideration!

First click the small feed icon in the bottom nav bar. Second select "note discovery" at the top. Third if you don't see any dvms, click "global" at the top. Hope this helps!

True. When I first clicked this section I had yet to follow any, and so the screen showed only "feed empty". The first trick is to change to "global" feed to see all the dvms. The second trick is if you long press on one you like then you get a little partial menu with "follow" as an option, which adds it to you followed feed.

I had that happen to me on one model, but others worked just fine for me, sometimes instant. Did you get any to work?

UI suggestion for Amethyst.

I always keep tabs to "All Follows" and so this always showed "Feed Empty". I didn't really know what it was, so never investigated further.

Today on a whim I changed "All Follows" to "Global" and was blown away.

I suggest that "Feed Empty" could have a mini prompt "See Global Feed".

I just discovered note discovery in Amethyst! Incredible.

I had been flipping across to primal to use their feed options since forever. This market approach is excellent. Anyone can launch one, and I can follow the ones I like best.

#Austrich problem, all the good stuff happens in timezones while I'm sleeping.

Would you prefer your Bitcoin privacy to be improved or are you ok with how it is?

What do you currently spend on Bitcoin privacy and would you ideally spend more or less?

What price premium (if any) would you pay to get KYC free sats straight from a mining business?

Can these nodes all connect with each other over mesh? Looks like many miles through urban environments

BTC crashes 15%

Everything else crashes 20%

Outperformance.

Japan leant me unlimited free money to buy whatever I wanted. Now they tell me the money isn't free anymore, so I have to sell things to pay them back.

The algorithm is trying to make me fearful and panic. I wonder why?

We know they engineer boom and bust cycles to force people to sell their real assets at cheap prices.

But I guess that only works if we're not wise to it.

Because what if we don't sell? Or what if we're holding outside money that actually appreciates during the bust?

That would make us hard to take advantage of. They would have to shake us out some other way.

Fearful. Panic. I wonder why?

There's a point in the Mandibles near the start where the son is hearing the news readers report on the US default, and he notes that the newsreaders are excited. Not because the news is exciting, but because it's their job to read the news and it's exciting to have something important to read even if that important thing is terrible.
