Checked out the Orange Pi 5 with 16GB RAM but it’s almost 2x as expensive as the new Raspberry Pi with similar specs.

Are Raspberry Pis still good? I heard that the company was doing some fishy shit a while back, like hiring ex cops, if I’m not mistaken.

A relatively cheap mini computer with 16GB of RAM is quite interesting for some Kubernetes workloads.

Are there alternatives?

Chromebooks are basically super-locked down Linux laptops, that’s what makes them so secure. I just wish the OS wasn’t complete spyware.

You usually have to toggle some software or even hardware switches to get around secure boot on Chromebooks. In case of the Pixelbook you need a special USB key cable that’s no longer in production, afaik.

Can’t promise I’ll stick around for that long but I’d be up for it. Just don’t want to socially exhaust myself the conference even starts.

My ex-girlfriend’s brother dropped his phone and ruined his screen while visiting us. He also forgot his laptop charger (no USB C) and so he was without any computer and couldn’t get into his Google account.

I setup a throw-away account for him and lend him my Pixelbook (a Chromebook).

He now returned the Pixelbook with the Google account still on it and forgot the password, making the device worthless.

A quick buck? The founder was ditched by all VCs. Prices are this high due to low volume production so they don't get huge volume discounts. The display tech is a great step forward: No blue light, high refresh rate, perfect readability in sun light, ePaper like legibility. Maybe it's not for you, that's okay.
