My neighbors have a kid who just turned 5 yesterday. He likes to come over to my house and "help" with projects. He really likes to work with woodworking tools, though at 5, there's still a lot of supervision necessary. He has a two-year-old little brother, so I think he really likes having something he can do that the little guy can't.

I built him his own workbench for his birthday yesterday. It was a big hit.

Toughest part was deciding how tall to build it. It's about an inch or two higher than ideal right now, but he'll grow faster than the bench will... 😉

What espresso machine do you use?

In mine I use a third of each of the following olive oil (infused and strained), coconut oil and beeswax.

To minimise the evaporation of any active components I melt the wax first, add the coconut oil, wait for that to melt and then add the infused olive oil. Turn off the heat, let the residual heat in the bain marie remelt the coconut oil and then pour.

This is the colour I get for a simple flavoured lip balm. If I was to do a comfrey slave it would be a bit darker.

I added the bees wax pellets into the hot coconut oil and mixed until they melted will try melting first before adding next time to get a better look. Either way this should do it’s job.

I was at about 5 cups infused coconut oil to 1.25 cup of bees wax

Comfrey salve I made you can see some separating I think between the coconut oil and bees wax I mixed in maybe next time I will heat and let them mix longer.

Was the comfrey completely dry before you used it? Any moisture can cause issues.

It was in the dehydrator for about 24 hours I didn't have any steam come out while in dehydrator. I have a few tins trying now and as it is drying it does in fact look dark green.

The Comfrey salve I made is more brown then green is it possible the crockpot on low got the leaves and coconut oil too warm?

Ginseng sprouts

Made a bed for ginseng on the North side of my house and scattered the seed. Got way better germination than I expected given the stories I've heard of difficulty growing ginseng from seed.

Any experienced ginseng growers out there? Should I thin, transplant to to make some breathing room, or let it ride?

Day 52: #grownostr initiative

Today i harvested Zucchini, Yellow Summer Squash, Cucumber, Jalapeno, Parsley and Mint from the garden. We are making Dirty Rice with the Zucchini, Squash, Jalapeno, Parsley and some Deer meat from a friend. The Mint is used to garnish a cocktail made with Hibiscus and Lavender Simple Syrup, Gin and Tonic.
