Even though I am using Unix-like operating systems for decades but one thing I am still struggling with is job control.

I.e. I start a long running process with output like rsync -av in my terminal. I know about ctrl-z and bg. But output is not detached. What I want is sending also the output to the background and getting it to the foreground from time to time to check on the status.

I rarely have long running tasks without output, so I always wonder what to do with job control. #linux #bsd

I am thinking about switching to #NixOS from EndeavourOS (Arch). Where should I I start?

Where can I read about best practices?

I read that flakes aren’t actually that important on a laptop but I should use home-manager.

Can I also use different WMs/DEs with home-manager?

I saw today Dune Part 1 & 2 in the cinema. 1 was quite cool, 2 was ok. A bit confusing from time to timee and the time frame was too short.

The book where the story needs years to develop (according to the plot in the Wikipedia) makes more sense to be honest.

Favorite RPG of all time: Shadowrun!

I don’t care about the edition. The world is awesome and I love the dice pools (big trolls == big dice pools) and you have a reason why strangers run together. Sometimes I don’t like the crunchiness.

I hate glueing together tabletop minis. Warhammer 40k-minis are even worse than Star Wars-Minis (except those battle droids maybe).

Wow. Pocket has really no support except some FAQ-articles. And the “Contact Support” link is just a link onto the support-page. I didn’t expect that from a company like Mozilla.

They also list accounts on X and not on Mastodon or so.
