Techno-optimist and first principles seeker. I try to remember to question everything. I want to learn everything. Know thyself, and endure. In enduring, grow strong.

Pretty amazing stuff, right? They haven't announced any major breakthroughs recently, but from watching recent interviews with him, they have begun trials with mammals. I'm really hopeful that we'll see some results that could change the world of medicine.

Is anyone else an avid follower of the developmental biology research being done by Michael Levin and his team out of Tufts University? It gave me some intense existential crisis type moments when I understood the implications. This was the first lecture I discovered by him: https://youtu.be/9pG6V4SagZE?si=4KZY4-76AxGqt6po

Thanks Jeff! And thanks for sharing your knowledge and perspective with the world.

The entire concept of this network, how it works, what it represents, the potential it has for the future, and the fact that I never knew it existed at all until it was mentioned briefly in a YouTube interview I was watching.

Watching an interview with npub1s05p3ha7en49dv8429tkk07nnfa9pcwczkf5x5qrdraqshxdje9sq6eyhe on the topic of Bitcoin and he mentioned Nostr at the end of it. Made me instantly curious to want to join this community.

I don't know who nostr:npub1rc8mqg42fssvsmrnz0nsajvtru8ytt5q2k44xz6jc8wxa3l8h4nqjcer0w is but I'm pretty sure we just nuked an entire paradigm from orbit.

Narrator: It's the only way to be sure.

hahaha... yeah, pretty much. I'm just some random dude who learned about Nostr yesterday ๐Ÿ˜‚

I have an nostr:npub1getal6ykt05fsz5nqu4uld09nfj3y3qxmv8crys4aeut53unfvlqr80nfm invite if you want to try it. Alby integrates tightly with nostr and many other bitcoin services.

Yeah, that would be awesome!

It seems like it's working, some have already showed up ๐Ÿ˜…

Like 50 people told me to sort out getting a Lightning address on my profile last night, so I went down that rabbit hole. I think I got it working with npub.cash. Still feeling a bit lost, this is kind of like discovering the internet in the mid 90s for the first time again for me ๐Ÿ˜‚

Been doing some reading... seems like Alby is one of the most well supported extensions for managing a wallet and a key together (and one of the few good looking ones I found for Firefox). Is this a correct assumption? The problem is that there's a waiting list of like 4300 people to sign up for an Alby account ๐Ÿ˜‘

Did you started with Gossip? Oh man ๐Ÿซ‚

Try https://coracle.social if you want to to be able to browse by relay.

And try many other clients, interoperability it's a Nostr gem. Just make sure to check they are trusted sources, and always use a Nostr extension on the web. Later you will learn about NIP-46 to better manage your nsec.

You have already been informed about zaps.

Welcome down the rabbit hole!

Thanks for all the info!

Gossip... it's very old school to me, feels like an IRC throwback ๐Ÿ˜‚

Dude, it's gotten so incredibly bad... if the attitudes weren't bad enough, the spam is just insanity.

I'm using the Gossip client that was on the Nostr main website, still getting used to all of this and had a few questions:

1. It seems like posts can have some kind of "reward" thing? Looks like an emoji reaction. Can anyone explain to me how those work?

2. What format does my profile picture link need to be in? Can't seem to get that working. I uploaded it on nostr.build.

3. This is likely a stupid question, but is there any way, or going to be any way, that you can filter and view the messages flowing through a given relay? I guess I'm imagining a relay that was meant for a specific topic... really, that sounds a lot like a hash tag, now that I think about it. Anyway, yeah, is there a way to follow tags?

4. Any other random tips and tricks anyone is willing to offer?

As I think more about this question, I wonder: "Would the world as a whole even want such a thing?". I'm so new to the ideas of decentralization and how they can really change the world, I feel at this moment like this has got to be the way of the future, and I've just stepped into a new dimension. But I highly doubt everyone will be as excited as me. Would it be more likely that we end up with some form of hybrid system?
