$517 Billion In Unrealized Losses Hits US Banking System!
The FDIC said Wednesday that unrealized losses across the sector on available-for-sale and held-to-maturity securities increased by $39 billion to $517 billion in the first three months of 2024. On June 3, Berkshire Hathaway's stock, BRK.A, experienced a dramatic but brief drop due to a technical glitch on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE). The glitch caused Berkshire shares to appear to have fallen by nearly 100%, prompting the NYSE to halt trading in several high-profile stocks to correct the issue.
Berkshire Hathaway's stock has plummeted by nearly 100% in value compared to Bitcoin since 2015—from about 1,000 BTC to 9.15 BTC.
This is something entirely impossible with Bitcoin considering it doesn't singularly trade on a centralized exchange like the NYSE.
As of June 4, Bitcoin's net market capitalization was around $1.36 trillion, which makes it the world’s ninth-largest asset by valuation. Interestingly, BTC is ahead of Meta Platforms and Berkshire Hathaway, whose market cap are $1.20 billion and $899.36 million.
The price of gold, like Berkshire Hathaway stock, has dropped over 99% versus Bitcoin since 2015.

US Banking lobby last-minute bid to stop biden vetoing SAB 121 overturn.
“Precluding regulated banking organizations from effectively providing digital asset safeguarding services at scale harms investors, customers, and ultimately the financial system,” the ABA wrote in a May 31 letter to Biden, just before he announced his decision to veto the Congressional resolution aimed at repealing the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) SAB 121 guidelines.
“The SAB 121 represents a significant departure from longstanding accounting treatment for custodial assets and threatens the industry’s ability to provide its customers with safe and sound custody of digital assets,” the ABA explained.
“Limiting banks’ ability to offer these services leaves customers with few well-regulated, trusted options for safeguarding their digital asset portfolios and ultimately exposes them to increased risk,” it added.
