I'm only about a third way through, but I already suspect this will be one of those books I will read more than once.

I'd highly recommend it for anyone hoping to change the world or do hard shit.

Every time I take a left turn through an intersection it is a reminder of the beauty of human incentives.

Two people are careening in two-ton metal death machines, directly at each other, then because of a simple human system (traffic lights) both turn left at the same time and miss killing each other by a matter of feet. This happens millions of times across the USA every single day.

Nearly all of those interactions result in both parties making it to their final destination safe and sound. Not because the roads were designed with additional guard rails or padding, but because each individual wants to live and make it wherever they are going to see their friends and family. Each of them has a positive alignment of incentives.

Well aligned incentives, I would argue, are the most integral thing to human flourishing.

Never in my life have I seen a system with a more beautifully aligned incentive structure than bitcoin.

It may be purely digital, but it's deeply human. Programmatically aligning each of our incentives so perfectly that it will inevitable bring us forward to the next phase of human flourishing.

I've seen this picture circulating and it just breaks my heart.

Can you imagine living inside of thier fearful minds and sick bodies. They may live in the first world, but are subjected to self torture and fear every single day.

Lol. I actually thought Infinite Jest was only ok. But I do love DFW. I’ve read everything except for Pale King.

Currently reading Living In a World That Can’t Be Fixed by Curtis White. It’s one of the most relevant books I’ve read in a while and he’s an excellent writer.

A favorite that not a lot of people have heard of is This Is How You Lose the Time War. It’s unconventional sci-fi.

Whenever red and blue people yell at each other politically in the past couple decades of rising political polarization, like half of it is explained by this. The pie isn't growing.

It's challenging to maintain a growth mindset with data like this.

But I do deeply believe that human beings will persevere and come out of this stronger and more resilient, regardless or how polarized the world feels right now.

Some spend their Friday nights at the bar, others spend them honing their craft.

Free journaling to think through story architecture is one of my favorite writing tools. But it extends much more widely, thinking through writing has helped me to crystlize so many disjointed ideas over the years in all facets of my life.

Not sure you care to read a book review after the enthralling ZapFest, but I just finished reading Anthem, my thoughts below 👇

Overall I was pleasently surprised. This was my first introduction to Rand's work and it held up to the hype. I was expecting the book to be more scifi about how communistic structures tear the world apart, and it was, but just not in the manner that I expected.

The book was focused on language, and specifically, how it can be used to change the way that you think. Not just about the world, but about yourself. This is specifically one of the things that attracted me to writing, because some lessons are only capable of being learned through FEELING it. You could have told me that this language is important a thousand times, but getting to ride around in the characters head and see it happen was a profoundly different experience.

One that I would certainly recommend! If you have read any Rand, let me know, I will be diving into more of her work and would love to hear which one I should tackle next.
