US Presidential debate: I inherited flat economy - Biden fires back at Trump
==========
President Joe Biden stated during the 2024 U.S. presidential debate in Atlanta, Georgia that he inherited a flat economy from his predecessor, Donald Trump. Biden claimed that Trump had "absolutely decimated" the US economy while in power. In response to accusations from Trump that he had destroyed the US economy, Biden highlighted that his administration has helped millions of Americans get new jobs since assuming power. Recent polls have shown that Americans consider inflation or the cost of living as the most important financial problem facing their families. Additionally, a Gallup poll revealed that 46% of adults in the United States have confidence in Trump to do or recommend the right thing for the economy, while only 38% said the same about Biden.

Dangote, Onyema responsible for recovering economy - Agbakoba
==========
The economy is showing signs of recovery, with the efforts of Aliko Dangote and Allen Onyema being credited. Dangote Refinery commencing sales of diesel and Air Peace flying to the UK have positively impacted the forex market and strengthened the Naira against the dollar. Olisa Agbakoba, a former chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association, suggests that if this trend continues, much-needed relief for Nigerians will occur. He also emphasizes the need to put the private sector at the center of economic development and advises the government to withdraw from business. The economy has faced challenges, including high inflation, food inflation, depreciation of the Naira, removal of fuel subsidies, and job losses. However, the Dangote Refinery's diesel sales have significantly increased supply and lowered prices, with plans to sell Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) in the future. Air Peace's flights to the UK have also led to a drop in ticket prices. The forex market has reacted positively, and experts predict a potential fall in the price of the dollar. Agbakoba highlights the importance of private sector involvement and the transition from consumption to production for economic growth.

Ebonyi community rejects peace pact report
==========
The people of Effium, in Ohaukwu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, have rejected a peace pact report issued by a peace panel headed by retired Catholic bishop Rev. Michael Okoro. The rejection is based on the claim that the report infringed on their fundamental human rights. The war between the two communities of Ezza-Effium and Effium began on January 21, 2021, due to a leadership tussle between two factions of the National Union of Road Transport Workers. Efforts by the past administration of Governor David Umahi and the Federal Government to end the war were unsuccessful. The peace pact report was described as apartheid and a violation of the 1999 Constitution of Nigeria by the Ezza-Effium Consultative Assembly. They rejected the aspect of the report that labeled them as tenants in Effium community and barred them from producing a traditional ruler. The Ezza-Effium people called for a ceasefire and the return of residents to their homes while issues relating to revenue and other matters are addressed. They urged Governor Francis Nwifuru to revisit the peace pact report and other relevant documents to ensure the restoration of enduring peace in the Effium community.
