Complete freedom would exist outside of a "platform" as those who value freedom know that it's protocols > platforms. This is the same concept that makes the nostr protocol more free and flexible than any single "platform" within its ecosystem.

With that in mind, the protocol would be RSS paired with the lightning network. So the freedom stack would be a web server hosting music files & a feed and your own lightning node to plug into the value tags.

Fountain has an option for custodial wallets, but they have surfaced my self-hosted music in their app from the time it was published in 2021, and they respect my value tag which points to self-run lightning nodes owned by the artists. They do not force you into their wallets in order to appear in their app, and they do not force you to use their proprietary wallets as an artist. You have the *freedom* to choose. So that's a pretty big "almost".

In order to appear on wavlake's platform you must host your content on their servers, use their custodial wallet services and agree to their terms of service.

The alternative would be to host an rss feed and music files on literally any server, use any lightning address or lightning node of your choice, and agree to no terms if you want actual "freedom" in terms of music hosting.

There's nothing "freedom" about Wavlake.

You could maybe say "it's the crypto version of Spotify," that would come much closer.

I used proton.me, and I emailed support from my personal spencer@bowlafterbowl.com email

interesting, i was getting emails from other sources but i didn't know there were issues recently

So it wouldn't send to my proton mail account but I made a gmail for them and that worked, not sure why I couldn't with proton but I sort of prefer that over gmail (although mcafee always said the opposite 🤷‍♂️)
