Agreed. I would use the term 'visibility algorithm' here.

If the client is merely ordering the note flow of a selected account, then that wouldn't be a visibility algorithm. A visibility algorithm would be ordering the note flow from many accounts, where the sorting can be used to boost or deboost certain accounts.

Experiment:

1. Deactivate public follower count. Private follower count could still be useful to see if there is growth or decline.

2. Display a count for shared/mutual follows when a logged in user views another account.

I love using Blixt. While it's easy to use it has tons of more complex and experimental features that can be turned on. Just important to remember to save and verify channels.

Right. The real spam problems will surface further on when AI bots will make procedurally generated content. Then web-of-trust scores may become useful.

Nice.

Just thinking out loud, not knowing your exact approach, one method one could compare note content by percentage is to write a function that adds up all the ASCII characters in a note and then produce a score from this. Notes with over 50 characters and with small score differentials posted within a short timeframe are thereby similar in content and likely spam.

Good, reminds me of Aesop.

-- The fable of the Dog and the Wolf --

(Aesop, from memory)

A dog meets a wolf at the outskirts of a town.

Good day cousin wolf, barks the dog.

- Nice to meet ya, responds the wolf.

I see your fur is ragged and you look hungry, says the dog. Why don't you come with me to see my Master where I live, and he will provide you with all the food you need.

- I haven't eaten in days so this offer of yours sounds tempting. Do you live far from here?

Not that far away, a good ten minutes pawpace from here, says the dog and leads the way.

As they are walking along the road towards the homestead of the dog, the wolf starts to notice that there is something unusual with the dog's neck.

- Hey cousin dog, what's the story of that torn fur around your neck?

Oh, said the dog, that's just the spot where my Master ties the rope every night. It was annoying and itchy at first, but you know, it is still a good tradeoff for the easy life I live here with all the food I need and easy chores, whereas you may go starving from time to time.

- I see said the wolf, deep in thought.

Goodbye cousin dog, said the wolf and hastily made his path toward the woods.

Love Ted Nasmith although John Howe is my favorite Tolkien artist.

Shut up .eth bot. Blocking.

Lowery got it backwards.
