Today something amazing happened, it's worth writing about.

For 25 years since I've known my father in law, it's been an uphill battle.

He really disliked me initially - I know it wasn't personal as such, he's just odd and has issues.

Later he learned to not hate me.

Several years and a granddaughter later, he'd actually make sure he'd say goodbye to me (besides my wife) before leaving. That's was quite a milestone, as he doesn't even say goodbye to my wife when on the phone, just a closing "uhh". It's weird.

Then there was the time I Xwetted about where he accepted my offer for a coffee - huge breakthrough, I think it was last year.

Soon after that he ASKED for a coffee.

Then some weeks later he said the coffee was good 😅, not "ok", but good. The time after that it was accompanied with a thumb up and smile.

Today, as he awkwardly hugged my daughter to say goodbye, my mother-in-law told him to hug me also - I didn't see it coming because I don't speak their language, but it happened. After he left, I told my daughter that was the first time he and I ever hugged. Her jaw dropped.

"I guess he shows love in other ways", to which I replied, "well, I don't think he's ever showed me any love before".

Ok, that's a bit unfair, he is a very anxious and awkward man, and he shows his love in very weird and subtle ways, I don't hold it against him, but in the early days, when I didn't know him, it was hard to understand his behaviour and I always assumed the worst.

Anyway, we hugged today, and it was weird, ngl. 🤣
