Nice. I sent my first note in December 2022: a bit late. But I tweeted about it in April 2022, so that makes me feel better.

(The Friedman poem is the epigram to Part 1 of The Machinery of Freedom. I first found this when I was 17 or so, and despite leaving anarchy-capitalism long ago, the poem and its main point have stuck with me.)

Arch-conservatives and utopian socialists make the same mistake. They have a vision for society; people are tools for carrying it out. There are exactly three known cures: (i) suffering under the boot, (ii) Hayek '45 — and (iii) this curious little poem by D. Friedman.
