I am so worried that we will never have true freedom of speech. We will never have true freedom to transact. We will never have privacy. Ever. The cameras are everywhere. The microphones are everywhere. All our transactions are cataloged...watched. All of our interactions everywhere with everyone and everything is cataloged...watched.

And maybe for some of us that amounts to nothing. But to someone like Mr. Snowden, who was simply trying to tell the world that their privacy had died, it amounted to something.

This was an incredible speech and I hope someone(s)...somewhere, someday hears this speech and has the ability to help free humanity from the digital and physical prison that continues to grow all around us.

Build. Wherever any of you are please build.

Freedom. Real freedom. Which IMO can't happen without Bitcoin.

The thing about corrupt totalitarians is they have a tendency to eat their own. Don’t despair - nothing is certain but it’s also the case that meaningful political is not impossible when good people decide they’ve had enough.

Nostr can play a huge role in this upcoming election if the movers here decided to organize. Kennedy is the only candidate who explicitly supports BTC - he accepts it for campaign contributions!

The safest bet for ANY Ledger user that has become increasingly paranoid and is looking to upgrade the security of their long term savings/HODL stack is to:

1. Get a cold card.

2. Create a new seed phrase w said cold card.

3. Download sparrow.

4. Do not use sparrow as a hot wallet.

5. Only use sparrow to move funds on and off your cold card.

And of course there a varying levels of security within the cold card itself (dice roll, etc.) and varying levels of security regarding how you record your seed phrase (multisig, brain wallet, metal plates, etc.)

While I have you one last thing since you seem knowledgeable and I'm still a noob:

Do you have any recommendations on a non KYC, non custodial, open source lightning wallet for iPhone?

Currently using wallet of Satoshi but I'm looking to upgrade that too.

Mostly yes except last bit.

There is no possible way for Ledger/ government to edit the firmware of the Ledger hardware device to make it export your Private Keys (assuming it can’t do that already, we don’t know because not FOSS)

It could be a genius move on behalf of Ledger cos people don’t trust them selves with private keys or the creation of a huge point of centralised failure. I believe the latter b/c if it can be fucked with it will be fucked with by bad actors/ gov.

Bottom line.

Sparrow & Cold card good b/c both are FOSS

I don't think RFK has a chance in hell, but there's always a chance. These polls are all crap anyway as has been proven in the past. That being said they could be crap the OTHER way and support for a third party could be even HIGHER than we know.

GOP and DNC won't give up their power without a fight though.

Also, regarding RFK I don't trust that he understands the importance of Bitcoin, Nostr, etc. in general. And I don't trust that he supports it outside of getting votes.

But if your choices are a giant douche, a turd sandwich, and RFK...well...

If this all goes the way we hope it will (fingers crossed) then it won't matter in the long term who wins. We will all win through the peaceful protest of open source decentralization.

Sparrow -on its own- used as a hot wallet is no safer than any other hot wallet because the Private Keys are stored on a computer connected to the internet.

Hardware wallets are considered safe(er) .The keys are on the hardware wallet cannot leave the device. Or that’s what we thought. Ledger announced it would be offering 3rd party key storage as a service. After previously denying it was even possible to export them.

Ledger live “could” be exporting the keys, or “could” force a firmware up grade that could export the PKs, but as it’s not Fully Open Source nobody can verify this. Unlike Cold card.

What if the government walked into Ledger head office and mandated exposing all Private Keys ?

Well now we don’t have to use Ledger Live - Sparrow (& others) can interact with Ledger hardware wallet without a forcing firmware upgrade.

Let me see if I have this correct regarding Ledger:

I switch from using Ledger Live for my Ledger hardware device to using #sparrow for my Ledger hardware device.

The government kicks down Ledger's corporate office door and says "give me access to this law abiding citizens private keys."

Since I'm now using my Ledger hardware device on #sparrow there is no possible way Ledger's corporate office has my keys?

I used the Sparrow / #Ledger combo last night, I think now I’m more used to it, it’s as easy as #LedgerLive / Ledger combo.

Not reusing addresses is always good practice. For example if you combine #KYC and No KYC coins you just KYC your No KYC stash.

I think the good thing about #Sparrow is you can use it for different hardware wallets, so you only need to learn a different interface every time.

I’m at the limits of my knowledge hear, so when I need tutorials I generally brush up by watching nostr:npub1rxysxnjkhrmqd3ey73dp9n5y5yvyzcs64acc9g0k2epcpwwyya4spvhnp8 tutorial vids.

The media calling Oliver Anthony’s song a right wing anthem when 1) it doesn’t mention political parties or specific politicians and 2) has rather broad appeal across anti-establishment types in general is inaccurate but predictable imo.

Now, I think one valid criticism is that if someone were to write a song called “Rich Men North of Richmond”, and it only criticizes one fiscal policy in the song, then food stamps (assistance aimed at the poor) probably isn’t the best one to pick. There is no shortage of fiscal programs that siphon money towards corrupt rich people (eg defense contractor graft), which would be more on-theme to pick.

But imo that doesn’t detract from the song much. And this unfortunately happens a lot. Usually the fiscal programs that benefit the rich tend to be harder to explain and more obfuscated than ones aimed at the poor (eg food stamps buying unhealthy things vs massive Pentagon or Medicare corruption). By design.

A beautiful song. My only problem is that it blames the rich and not the system that actually empowers them.

But try substituting "cause the system is inflation" for the line "cause of rich men north of Richmond". Just doesn't have the same kind of pull.

I am new to BTC but am trying to learn as much as possible as quickly as possible. At first I was simply buying BTC on an exchange and then transferring it to cold storage.

But #[0] inspired me to try and start spending and replacing it.

Well today I had my first merchant transaction. I ordered food from a place I had no idea accepted BTC!

The process was a little scary at first. There was a 5 second pause btw clicking "pay" and the lightning payment going through, but it went through and a few min later I had my food!

Just incredible. Still need more development on the lightning payments side in terms of user interfaces. Just my 2 cents.

Also, curious what everyone's thoughts are on cold storage. Not sure which device is safest. Then someone told me not to use a device at all and put seed phrases on steel plates?!?!? Or to do a multisig?!?!?

What's everyone's thoughts? I want to spend now, but I also want the absolute most secure way to hodl and save for the long term.

New to Bitcoin and I want to visit a mining center. Are there any in NY/NJ/PA Thx!

Tor doesn't work in China without bridges because the Great Firewall blocks tor entry/exit nodes; bridges also are first to go down when tor is disrupted from attacks.

in China tor is like extra unreliable, it's fine to browse webpages sporatically but definitely no one is running a reliable hidden service in China
