“Beauty will save the world.” Book review Instagram: @themusingcatholic

You seem more knowledgeable on these topics than I am. That said, I don’t agree with some of the portrayals of Christianity. “The imprisonment of our true selves”, “we are all intrinsically evil”, and “chastity/castration as a special mark of piety” seem a lot like the Albigensian (Catharism) heresy.

While not an official stance, I think the Catholic Church is in line with the hylomorphic thought that body and soul together are good. We are not just flesh and we are not just souls but the two together in one kind. That then flows into the idea of wanting kids/family and helping kids be good by helping teach and grow their moral intuitions (which is opposite to what wokeism thinks about reproduction)

“Goodness is submission, not flourishing” is a big claim as well. What does flourishing look like? I’d argue the goal outlined in life to know, love, and serve God leads to flourishing by helping us be saints. To seek to understand the metaphysically ultimate, to make virtue a habit, and to demonstrate faith by bearing good fruit leads to a flourishing society, no?

We are to be prudent in stewarding the world, not to condemn it. Creation is good.

The fruit of Christianity is wokeness

"All men have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God"

"All white people are racist"

The alternative is the scientific paganism of Aristotle, which via truce with Christian mysticism Aquinas fashioned into Renaissance

Wouldn’t it be the result of Humanism and/or Liberalism? There are Christian countries, like Hungary, that denounce wokeness.

New worst nightmare 😅

“Stop dictating what others can or can’t do.”

As you tell him what to do? Humanity is not a bunch of isolated islands where we can all just “stick to our own business”. We all depend on each other. Treat others as you would like to be treated.

And so starts the beginning of wisdom. Would love to see updates and questions you have as they arise. And enjoy, this is the ultimate rabbit hole of truth ✝️

But what is the objectively True, the Good, and Beautiful? There can only be one “first mover” and one “uncaused caused”. If gods can be killed then that implies they were alive and had to be born/created. If there is more than one God then which God came first? If more than one exists then which is responsible for creation? Or are they part of creation? If so, then is reality a brute fact? If so, then these so called “gods” are not very godly especially if they behave immorally. There’s far too many logical inconsistencies when you stray from monotheism.

The concept of God itself is enough to elevate humanity as it helps us strive towards our own betterment.

“Ego sum qui sum.” “I am who am.”

God Is. Meaning God exists necessarily as pure actuality. Aquinas’s First Way explores this further.

God is the creator of the sun and the moon and stars therefore we can appreciate the beauty of His creation but recognize He is outside of it and therefore do not attribute divinity to the cosmos. He is not “an angry old man” but the metaphysically ultimate. He is without parts as Divine Simplicity explains.

I encourage you to better understand the topics of classical theism and Church teachings to better understand who God actually is (as best we can know what is beyond our ability to comprehend).

A year ago I was atheist. Because of bitcoin I followed the string of truth to Catholicism. I’m partial to reasoning and logic (as in others may be more convinced by the emotional or personal anecdotes) so I found the St. Thomas Aquinas’s “Summa Theologiae” and “Summa Contra Gentiles” fascinating. While I haven’t read them fully (people dedicate their lives to studying his works, Thomists) I have read summaries of which there are many and watched countless videos of people far far smarter than me. “Pints with Aquinas” is a great place to start.

Ascension also has a STELLAR app for Bible in a year and Catechism in a year. Happy to talk more here or in DMs as well. Praying for you.

“Ego sum via, et veritas, et vita.”

Love this verse. God bless.

A vocation to holy life such as priesthood and nunnery. Requires discernment before going the celibate path as they prioritize the needs of the community.

Otherwise I fully agree. Have kids. Lots of ‘em.

To declutter my timeline is all 🙂 with the amount of people I follow it’s a firehose of content.

I’ve followed too many people so figured it be a good place to start.

Is there a way of knowing when an account was last active? Thinking I need to clean up my list of follows.

Looks like I’ve got a few years to catch up on then 😄 time to start going through the NostrReports!

Gone for a bit. Let’s see what I’ve missed.
