From my perspective, Nostr has marketing problem. There are lots of people who want censorship resistant social networks and network based on Nostr protocol is ideal for that.
But instead of to be seen as uncensorable alternative for big tech it's not know.

I don't know much about spam filters, but it look like it's only about mempool. Is possible for user to define spam filter in btc core? For example can i create script which not allow in my mempool inscriptions?
Problems with polycentric network are in existence of centers. They are not censorship resistant. User just can choose which censorship regime will be applied on him.

Problem with mastodon centralization is not in one specific default server. Centralization problem is in protocol. You are only on one server where you have accout . You can see and comunicate with others, but you are only on one. So you have multiple centers. Its polycentric network not decentralized. Censorship is easy for country where is server with your account. If they force server to remove your account with all data you lost everything and you need to build your social network from ground.
Decentralized is when your account with all your data is on multiple servers.
If your account is on nostr, your data are by default on multiple relays(servers). Is some of them in germany? Who cares about their censorship when you are on another x relays and all content is on every one of them. They force german server to remove your notes? It's not effective.
