nostr:npub1em6mtlq223q60p3fammxmynlpepp2ntnut0ywlj3w5uy4uce3m6s4mym7f Damn it. How do they make it to the concert on time?
Or do they all just stay in the venue until Dan happens to show up?
I think I can guess.
(Cancel Operation Traitor McDEAD. For now.)
nostr:npub14vk3lc2nj8fkfzjt5h8xwa4gl7v4h6x9r6khrpklx4fyszhjdr4s2wpvt7 It is - a classic 1972 Beogram 4000 with a linear-tracking tonearm.
The LP is super fun. Nice different spin on songs I'm super familiar with.
The Dave Brubeck Quartet - Time Outtakes
Everyone, of course, has heard Time Out, one of the most famous and popular albums ever. They recently turned up additional tapes from those sessions, and here they are...and it's great to hear quite different (and equally great) versions of these classic tunes, plus a few extras.
Well worth your time. And money. Don't forget money.

nostr:npub1fq5n4rmpw4utt792v8fhv4cp8rmg79fyqlcdws9kxeaq5pkjwcysaep8du Like Destroyer fans have watches... 😌
nostr:npub1em6mtlq223q60p3fammxmynlpepp2ntnut0ywlj3w5uy4uce3m6s4mym7f You make a good point.
(She's onto us. Postpone mission until watches can be acquired.)
nostr:npub1em6mtlq223q60p3fammxmynlpepp2ntnut0ywlj3w5uy4uce3m6s4mym7f Don't worry: no one is going to murder you.
(Gather the team. High priority. Invade workshop at 15:30. Synchronize watches...now.)
Destroyer - Labyrinthitis
You never know what to expect with a Destroyer album, save for quality: Dan Bejar is obviously, talented, restless (and missed from the New Pornographers).
This one starts out with an almost Cocteau Twins sounding track (without the vocals, of course), and continues along in an 80s vein, with some almost New Order tracks mixed in.
(Semi-amusingly, the black strips on this pressing confused the Beogram's optical disc detection...)

Wayne Shorter - Adam's Apple
A murderer's row of players here - Shorter, Herbie Hancock, Reginald Workman and Joe Chambers - recordeding a bunch of great Shorter originals by who else but Rudy van Gelder.
What's not to like? (Answer: nothing.)

nostr:npub14rcu5df4xv6ly4mmyty876479rqjs3nkmxuakdt87ttz4cwde5jsxv0nej It is good! Just wanted to set expectations, given the Blue Note label. :-)
(By the way, that's Chuck Rainey on bass - who you may recognize from the work he did with Steely Dan.)
nostr:npub1drcfyzwlfku08h973sehg27trygtdsxxkhdg5ay9crly34slxjksr9s7v5 Works here, too, but it's not https, and it may fail for people who have set things up to require that.
Donald Byrd - Places and Spaces
Blue Note label or not, this is definitely not a jazz album: it's pure funk/soul. Given the occasional strings and the general groove, it's edging right up to disco (but in that case, on the jazzier side).

nostr:npub1hag6urkcvgj0z6e73wuax7yzy0m9uzc99mtmvev84pu4n759pa9qdlnpjk I think I mentioned that. I have more than one B&O, the Rega, and this Brinkmann. (I moved the Brinkmann here from a different room, swapping it with the Rega.)

Yard Act - The Overload
I have two copies of this - this is the deluxe version with their live NPR desk concert added.
As I mentioned before - these guys are a little Gang of Four (with less singing - figure Anthrax without the chorus), a little Ian Dury, a little Fall, and a little like their contemporaries Dry Cleaning: savagely biting lyrics set to grooves.

Fana Hues - flora + fana
A delightful surprise, selected as one of my "free albums" with my VMP subscription. Best slotted into R&B, but with some funk & trip-hoppy beats in there on some tracks.

nostr:npub17d7nje803xcfy3jqvej57308yzmmq6u69x6z4qa4vg7pqvrf6u9qlkh6sl Huh - never heard of them, but I'm looking forward to giving this a spin!
Ali Farka Touré with Ry Cooder - Talking Timbuktu
A Grammy-winner for a reason, this wasn't available on vinyl for a long time. And it's a really beautiful recording of the Malian desert blues player, with Cooder playing along with a few known players (eg Jim Keltner) and a whole lot of African masters.
Anyway, no doubt you've heard it. And if by some chance you haven't...you really should.

Re-playing Melt after listening to a Produce Like a Pro podcast with Lillywhite - most of this was constructed in the studio...and they took a break mid way through to generate more material.
When they did, Steve produced the first Psychedelic Furs album. And maybe XTC's Black Sea (hence Dave Gregory on Melt).
