They tell you a lot imho. They tell you whether someone is a spammer, or annoying, or just plain new, but they're imperfect signals of course.

I think the self-describing, binary format use cases are pretty few and far between, personally. gzipped or bzipped json is generally preferable in most cases.

If you imagine a kind 1 with an image linked in the content, you could include a tag that provides the sha256 for that URL, and maybe a list of blossom server hints, magnet link, etc.
There's obviously A LOT of overlap with NIP-94 but it's still fairly distinct.
