I live a business ethics class. I'm trying to not be simple and accuse a legitimate, profitable business of predation because their customers don't RTFM.

Yeah that's what I'm saying. Just degrees of focus on profit. Kind of came out like business is bad, but I mean that Strike isn't being "predatory" but rather maybe "aggressive." They do explain all this in the terms, so it's not a lie or falsely advertised. You are in fact using your BTC to get a bill paid.

But not everyone reads the terms, and Strike will squeeze a little more profit out of them. And that's fine, because they're there to make money. The selling and tax liability just merits a mention from the community, but I rarely, if ever, see it.

I guess predatory is a little strong because it's just business, and that's what we should assume the business is there to do, but all these influencers should probably mention it to the plebs who keep them influencing. Not really looking out for the little guy there...

It makes zero sense. It’s a lie to say it’s paying in Bitcoin, and having a capital gain/loss for every bill paid is awful. I don’t care how “easy” strike makes the tax reporting.

Yes, when your life gets cheaper because you held BTC and paid bills with it, you do have to share some of the realized cheaper-ness with the government. Newsflash: that doesn't mean you're worse off than if you had held dollars.

This isn't for people who held BTC. It's for plebs who want to try this BTC-only lifestyle they keep hearing about. They end up buying and selling and buying again and selling again because it sounds so great. They could've just used the fiat on bills and bought corn instead of giving it to the government and the exchange in taxes and fees. It's not the taxes that bug me. It's the complete lack of mentioning the taxes and that your corn is just getting sold.

May as well do a little bit so that the government doesn't try to harass you for hodling non-KYC and make up some shit to stick on you.

Thanks for the input on the regional spelling stuff. It's not something I'd really thought about before. I'm not personally put off by US English, even though it's not what I use personally.

I think we say "4,000+" and "almost 5,000" which isn't contradictory, but we should tidy that up, and it's a good prompt to do a check for consistency; I appreciate the pickup. This is our number of newsletter subscribers, not customers.

Asking questions is just one of the ways I learn the things I need to. I put the question out here because my Nostr connections are in a broad range of locations (not the only place I asked the question though).

As someone who's amused by the different ways common words are spelled in different English-speaking nations, I don't think this is a big deal. It's only a certain type of person who's going to be "off-put" by the spelling, and probably not worth worrying about.

Question for the Nostr brains trust:

With my new business (impactsociety.co) our first products are digital downloads (tools and templates for managers in PDF format etc). Most of our sales have been in the US (we're based in Australia).

We recently had feedback from a US customer that they found the AUS/UK spelling in our content a bit off-putting (e.g. organisation vs orginization).

This guy comes across as intelligent, thoughtful and overall complimentary of our work. So I was a bit surprised at the feedback. Personally I don't have any issues with US English spelling when I come across it.

Is this a thing that companies outside the US have to think about? It wouldn't be that hard to create regionalised versions of our content and website etc. But equally I'd prefer not to waste time on it if it's an isolated issue.

Now that i think about it, the safest thing to do is ask the user which follows and unfollows were intentional whenever it notices that it is updating multiple p tags at once. You don’t even need historical deltas for this
