I will no longer choose between the lesser of two evils. I will opt out and choose my own path.
This is a feature not a bug.
Few.
Did you know that nostr:npub17u5dneh8qjp43ecfxr6u5e9sjamsmxyuekrg2nlxrrk6nj9rsyrqywt4tp has tracked 150 physical attacks involving bitcoin or crypto?
https://github.com/jlopp/physical-bitcoin-attacks/blob/master/README.md
I wanted to share some of the lessons that could be learned from these attacks, so I read them all.
nostr:npub1dtgg8yk3h23ldlm6jsy79tz723p4sun9mz62tqwxqe7c363szkzqm8up6m likes to say that bitcoin is Responsibility go Up technology and I couldn't agree more. When you actually own your assets, it's important that you take that ownership seriously. That includes securing your asset, but also securing yourself.
Of the 150 physical attacks tracked by @lopp 69% (104) resulted in a successful theft (or any kind) and 39% (58) resulted in a successful theft of Bitcoin / Crypto. Although 47% (49) of those “successful” attackers were later caught, crypto assets were rarely returned.
Many of the attacks involved “high profile” targets who flaunted their wealth on social media. If you are striving to be an "influencer" in this space, never talk about your portfolio and make sure you are taking your physical security seriously.
“The first rule of Bitcoin is: always talk about Bitcoin. The second rule of Bitcoin is: never talk about your bitcoins.” - nostr:npub17u5dneh8qjp43ecfxr6u5e9sjamsmxyuekrg2nlxrrk6nj9rsyrqywt4tp
Self-custody doesn't always protect you from physical attacks. 30% (45) of the examples involved a home or work invasion and in these cases victims can be forced to log into accounts or reveal private keys. Trick PINs, dummy passphrases and/or multisig can help with this.
However, these attacks can be dangerous for the attackers too. 55% of attackers were later caught and bitcoiners are generally better armed than the general population. Anecdotally, holding bitcoin in self-custody was what drove me to become an NRA member.
nostr:npub17u5dneh8qjp43ecfxr6u5e9sjamsmxyuekrg2nlxrrk6nj9rsyrqywt4tp has contributed an incredible volume of work into documenting security best practices and I cannot share his efforts enough. Check out all his security related content here:

If you are in the greater Boston area on Feb. 15th you can come get an introduction to the bitcoin security rabbit hole at the next Mass Adoption meetup.

If you can't make it, you can check out my slides here (lots of sources and links are shared within):

Illinois has a ton of nuclear! Kansas and Nebraska are better candidates for mining with nuclear though. They get rekt on electric rates because of the over build out of wind power.
There is an nostr:npub1az9xj85cmxv8e9j9y80lvqp97crsqdu2fpu3srwthd99qfu9qsgstam8y8 joke in here somewhere, but I'm not smart enough to think of one 🤣
Oh, wow, I actually never thought of making blanks. That is a great idea 🙂. Sometime in February I'll try out some designs 🔥
I suppose so, but I try to stay away from loading that kind of data on to a computer so I wouldn't recommend it. It's a pain in the ass, but I have a set of the metal punchs that I use and just do it by hand.
I had a larger than normal order for some of my laser engraving stuff this week. Would have had to open larger channels or free up liquidity to accept payment via lightning.
Found out that we both used nostr:npub1ajlrwgfj4yerhqf7ady03h7wmtk2qr3gs7h3sxcx83k05yld36sswpzx3q
That is how I received my first p2p payment for goods and services over liquid 🔥
Interesting, so are people calling ecash a layer-3 nostr:npub160t5zfxalddaccdc7xx30sentwa5lrr3rq4rtm38x99ynf8t0vwsvzyjc9?
I hadn't thought about it that way but it kinda makes sense.
Cool, sounds good man. Keep us posted!
How far are we from mainstream tools for Fedimint?
Id really like to get a Fedimint going for the meetup groups in our area where the organizers are the key holders, but it's gonna need to be accessible to Bitcoiners with a wide range of experience.
Looking forward to eventually going down the Fedimint rabbit hole 🔥
It was my pleasure! The more I push myself to educate as part of the meetup, the more really cool stuff I find out for myself too!
I definitely learned some stuff putting these slides together 🔥

Hosted a great meetup last night on mobile lightning wallets. We opened some new channels and got a few first time lightning users started!
Although development in this space is crazy fast, feel free to check out our slides if you want a starting point!

I along with a few other people I know all received this meme in DMs from accounts with zero posts, zero follows etc.
What's the deal with this meme? You testing something?

Bitcoin mining is a tough industry. But I am massively bullish on #Bitcoin mining and the reason why is because I am massively bullish on the people operating #Bitcoin mining equipment.
IMHO the average pleb heating their basement with an S9 understands energy markets better than most executives at energy generation and distribution companies.
The mining industry is going to unlock massive amounts of energy for humanity in the coming years and decades.
We are going to win. 🔥
