I’m looking into that now and I don’t see the appeal of being an astronaut. I mean space is cool but… osteoporosis and weakened immunity doesn’t seem worth it.

Definitely glad the Astronauts are back on earth… I’m curious how being stuck out there changed them.

Today I criticized a friend on X for his reporting, and I was a bitch about it, so I think it may be time that I make something very clear.

I am a very nuanced person. When I criticize someone‘s work, I do not generalize my criticisms onto their *body of work* or onto their person.

I can disagree with something someone has done or said, or how someone has handled a situation, without discrediting what they have done in the past or will do in the future. My criticisms apply to what I criticize and to nothing above or beyond that.

Given the comments Ive received not just today but on previous criticisms ive voiced on other people/entities in this space - for example my criticisms of BPI’s EO draft - it seems that this nuance is not always clear to everyone.

Criticizing something a person has done does not make them a bad person, even less does it imply that *I* think that they are a bad person. Criticizing something and entity has done does not make the entity a bad entity, nor does it imply that *I* believe so.

I am very harsh in my criticisms because this nuance exists in the way I think about the world. If you werent aware, please make sure to keep this in mind. PSA over🤘

I just finished reading it. I enjoyed it! Very optimistic vision for humanity. It was a clever detail how these species of the Federation are secretly aiding the bitcoin network to later have currency to buy advanced human technology. That’s a great piece of world building! It immediately makes me wonder what other species’ advanced technologies look like. The detail about how to leave humans alone so they develop their own innovations based upon their unique perspective kinda blew my mind in a way. I hadn’t really thought of that! It’s like watching a child solve a problem without jumping in to show them the “right” way. Good ending to a satisfying anthology. Are you planning to write more fiction?

How many times have you tried to tell someone about Bitcoin, only to hear: “Cool. Did you catch the game last night?” Or have you tried to tell others about Jesus only to be rebuffed? You have life-changing good news, but people just don’t want to hear it or take the time to understand it. Sadly, all we can say is “Have fun staying poor.”

five years ago, the us went into lockdown, destroying many lives in the process

since then:

-Won a national award for advocating for the minor survivors of Twitter. Talked to Elon and he made CSE top priority at X.

-Kept all of my friends and made new friends

-Developed a closer relationship with my family

-As a side quest started using my platform to advocate for the freedom of Julian Assange.

-I started having articles published.

All while having fun and loving life. Push forward friends, never stop. I never thought that I could do any of those things. Thank God I was wrong. 💜

I think it could be "solved", but privacy is essentially working against the grain of nostr. Put another way, if you don't want to reveal yourself at all you're not interested in the open network value proposition nostr offers, and so there's no reason to use nostr instead of something more centralized.

Thinking through groups on nostr for communities that put a premium on privacy, and I'm not sure it's going to work.

You can get privacy of communication via relay authentication or encryption. But a starting point for identifying each other is to publish a public profile, which might not be desirable. And you might want to use your real name in a community, but not in public.

I'm just imagining asking a little old lady in my church (assuming she can get past the cryptographic key pair step) to permanently publish her name and picture to 8 billion people on the internet in order for her to get access to announcements about after-church potlucks. It just doesn't make any sense.

Having a single profile for your online identity violates the "selective revelation of self" principle. Even if you use different keys for different things, you ideally are only going to want to share your profile with certain people.

A possible solution to this is encryption-by-default. Only send your profile to the people and communities you want to reveal yourself to, AKA the Google+ circles model.

Have I been barking up the wrong tree this whole time? I know some people have said "nostr is for public data". I still don't completely believe this, but it's harder to work against the grain than I expected.
