Terence Eden has a new blog about spam in his FOSS Matrix client. https://shkspr.mobi/blog/2025/07/im-never-going-back-to-matrix/ And there is a lesson for all nostr client devs in there.
Openvibe.social is an interesting (proprietary) app that combines 4 different social networks incl Nostr, Mastodon and Bluesky.
Here is a review by John Gruber ( though 6 months dated) https://daringfireball.net/2025/01/openvibe
'I really donโt see the point of mashing the tweets from two (or more!) different social networks into one unified timeline. To me itโs just confusing.'
Bitcoin's average 10 minute update window ( which isn't exact because of the design), is kind of a genius move.
We are all used to having real time systems so much, adding delay, that too in minutes, in some update in what's actually a database/ledger, seems counter-intuitive.
Point where I want to get, and what I find interesting, is why can't we add this same kind back off time-wait logic into (decentralized) social media updates.
Why do we want real time updates. Lets give people 10 minutes to think about something and reply. haha

There is a new options in Nostr_console which allows you to see threads from mutual follows only: https://github.com/vishalxl/nostr_console/discussions/87 Builds are available in the Action tab in github repository.
How do we know who is who? Somebody will have to declare who is who. In nostr parlance, a relay would say UUID belongs to this public/private key. All thsiis has been discussed a lot already. But I just would so like to see decentralized media get unlocked from this hard requirement of storing your own keys...3/n
One of the problem points of Nostr, and every such solution which depends on public/private key cryptography, is that its not easy for the 'average' person to store their keys. So that is the why Nostr is only for 'bitcoin' people, because, they know how to store their keys, one could say. 1/n
added a new options in "nostr console" so that you you can see a timeline of events of your 'mutual follows'. Builds here: https://github.com/vishalxl/nostr_console/actions/runs/15520571772 , and also improved profile search so that you can search using npub keys.
main disadvantage of Nostr Console these days is that it fails to get user profile, so you won't see user names. Only recommended to be used by people who just want to use it...

hi all...
Iroh allows us to bypass the domain name system, and connect to endpoints using mainline DHT. So I imagine we could host relays behind a DHT identity, and that would be pretty neat. this is just an example of things I imagine are possible.
its a great library which is allowing lot of people to make some new applications. For example: this dev is making a simple sync folder app: https://github.com/arcinston/synkro . Its like syncthing, but Iroh allows devs to make similar apps much easily. Good things can come out of it.
About 2 months ago, dev called dpc launched rastra.me , which is a social network that uses Iroh library, which in turn works on torrent's mainline DHT, in other words, there is no centralized server involved in accessing data/notes under rostra. right now the app is broken though..
hi all.. good morning
Made a gif using vhs tool which shows how Nostr Console looks like: https://github.com/vishalxl/nostr_console/discussions/86
hi from termux on android
test post from android
i have a full time job so fiddle with it on some weekends. as you can guess I use only nostr_console for these posts, so it works that much...
nostr_console still works as it used to. i had to do minimal changes. it now even supports nsec/npub keys, which I added in May. its main drawback is that it ignores a users relays but uses a global list. there are other inconveniences in it thats why i don't promote it that much
