yeah, it's not as smooth as it should be, yet. (which is also why we're still a bit hesitant with invites)
And people will be confronted with owning keys in the future - which I think is a good and important thing. Something to celebrate even :)
New users will get on the self-sovereign Alby Hub. Existing users have the choice but slowly upgrade.
you can for example get a <$50 device and put it in your closet it will work perfectly fine.
here is an invite code:
https://getalby.com/auth/users/new?invite_code=cfe6b07b
it will onboard you to the upcoming Alby Hub
you two should try to run the Alby Hub
it keeps on working and will get better :)
you will have the option to upgrade to Alby Hub which is the upcoming self-sovereign wallet.
but everything keeps working as it is.
we provide and build software for which we provide services.
Our goal is to put the user in control and can run everything. And we charge for value added services. it's simple actually.
If you don't value the work, then don't use it.
But spreading FUD and lies on something that you seem to not know and understand is disappointing here on nostr.
yes, you're wrong and you seem to not want to know and understand what we're doing or offering.
but it seems a decent conversation is not possible here. that's fine if you think you know better.
We always worked towards self-sovereign bitcoin lightning (and nostr). Our upcoming Alby Hub wallet is the next step.
You're free to run it and use it with all the Nostr and lightning apps.
And there will be paid additional services to make things even better.
my point is there is no KYC, there is open source software under an open license that you can use and run and do whatever you want with it.
don't trust; verify. but you don't want to look but rather spread some lies there. or show me what you're talking about.
I don't expect you to be a coder, but how can you make such comments when you don't even look at what's going on?
nostr:npub1getal6ykt05fsz5nqu4uld09nfj3y3qxmv8crys4aeut53unfvlqr80nfm I was checking my account for info on Alby Hub and just noticed this about the free custodial wallet sunsetting soon. Do you have any additional info on when you plan to sunset that service? Does that mean all users will need to either self-host or pay 21k says a month to use Alby wallet services? Wondering what to expect and when. Thanks 🤙

We are slowly rolling out Alby Hub and new services. We're also working on proper announcements (we're still better at computer code than at human language 😉 )
Alby Hub runs everywhere and we make it easy for everyone to run it. And we will also offer a paid cloud service for it.
The screenshots that your user already sees there are WIP and subject to change - and we build in the open there 😉
I love to hear that. thanks!
And our goal is to provide great service and support. We're all early in this and we create the future together. We're here get everybody joining.

With Alby going paid, nostr:nprofile1qqs04xzt6ldm9qhs0ctw0t58kf4z57umjzmjg6jywu0seadwtqqc75spzpmhxue69uhnzdps9enrw73wd9hszynhwden5te0wp6hyurvv4cxzeewv4eszynhwden5te0wfjkccte9enrw73wd9hsxv8qkt's nutsack will be even more enticing for new Nostriches. However, this doesn't solve all issues. In fact, it may even complicate things more. Users still need to withdrawal their nuts to a Lightning wallet so that they don't get rugged by mints. I still think the no brainer, easy to use, no KYC Lightning wallet eludes a lot of people.
Btw. are you already running a Alby Hub? can I give you an intro in the latest version?
no, but you will upgrade to a self-sovereign option where you have full control.
You can run it for free or use the cloud option which offers a paid service with benefits to make things easy.

some correction here:
Alby Extension is free and open source and always will be, obviously.
Alby Hub is our upcoming, fully NWC focused, self-sovereign wallet. free and open source as well. You can run it anywhere. (for example work hard to make it even run on $20 pi zero, which I am super excited about)
As a company we are going to offer lightning and Nostr/NWC cloud services and additional value added services that had been request quite often.
Our cloud service for Alby Hub is probably the fastest and easiest way to get a full lightning node running for you and fully supports the nostr and webln ecosystem.
We hope that people like our plans and value and support the work that we do.
did you ever look at our GitHub and the code and the work that is there?
Superior technology without adoption does not matter.
Any Umbrel users here who want to alpha test the new Alby Hub app for NWC?
the way it is made we have to start from zero again.
we get nowhere if we keep on starting from zero again and again without even trying to build on what has been achieved so far.
we just somehow seem to like starting over from zero again and again.
all the process that has been made with ln addresses, and zaps, etc. has to be done again.
we start from zero support again and it’s only a pain for users.
It's not that bitcoin and lightning is already confusing enough for users... now lightning addresses are no longer lightning addresses.
Users will not get it and complain that nothing works.
