A new Amethyst logo

Proposal by nostr:npub1aeh2zw4elewy5682lxc6xnlqzjnxksq303gwu2npfaxd49vmde6qcq4nwx

2023-10-23

Amethyst, the most popular Nostr client for Android, was first launched in early January 2023. Its original logo design featured a tall, warm purple hexagon with the shape of an ostrich head and beak in the negative space that was also vaguely reminiscent of an arm with a hand making the shaka symbol. 🤙

Since then, it has undergone iterations, and now features a cooler purple-to-blue gradient in a more abstract shape which somewhat resembles an A, but isn’t as successful as it should be.

In nature, an amethyst is a hexagonal crystal with deep and rich violet colors. This new design attempts to bring some of that back in a thoughtful and refined way. The new design features an avian face, made up of simple geometric shapes set into a symmetrical hexagon with rounded edges. The colors are vibrant and contrasting, and it is accompanied by a geometric sans-serif typeface that is both bold and distinctive.

I hope this new logo will be embraced by the community, as I think it will help elevate Amethyst to have a friendlier and more polished-looking brand, while still staying true to its origins, and the spirit of the Nostr. 💜

I like the current logo much better.

Bangin' this bolo tight on this solo flight can't fight alone

Funk tha track my verbs fly like tha family stone

Tha pen devils set that stage for tha war at home

Locked wit out a wage ya standin' in tha drop zone

The clockers born starin' at an empty plate

Momma's torn hands cover her sunken face

We hungry but them belly full

The structure is set ya neva change it with a ballot poll

In tha ruins there's a network for tha toxic rock

School yard ta precinct, suburb ta project block

Bosses broke south for new flesh and a factory floor

The remains left chained to the powder war

I just want you guys to talk about softwar soon... people may not be ready to hear it... but it's probably the one thing they NEED to hear.

Unfortunately I can’t make my keynote nostr:npub1ftw5mdhk9c2zcsc7fzs0vxydxtdqs8jfj2va5egz05hemsm50saqgr8wjt this time. I’ll be on live video instead. Messed up my schedule and my board meeting prevented me from reaching it in time.

Hopefully will see a lot of you in person at nostr:npub1nstrcu63lzpjkz94djajuz2evrgu2psd66cwgc0gz0c0qazezx0q9urg5l!

Looking forward to it Jack, thanks 🫡

Sometimes going to war is the only moral option. When you've been oppressed for so long, the only choice you are left with is to wake up and choose violence. Despite what the odds of victory are. Fuck the odds, don't tell me the odds.

I hope the people of Argentina are filled with righteous fury over the fraud perpetrated on them, and I hope they move beyond rule of law. God is physics and the people destroying their country have no choice but to sympathize with a bullet to the face.

The transition to a Bitcoin standard was NEVER going to be a peaceful thing, more Bitcoiners ought to recognize this reality. It's going to be an ugly war.

GM

It is physically impossible for proof-of-stake systems to replicate the same complex emergent behavior of proof-of-work systems.

If Bitcoin stays decentralized and secure, and I personally think it will, the level of real world decentralization the planet is going to experience is going to be staggering.

Because Bitcoin's "coins" are just software abstractions that represent real world scarce resources denominated in watts, it's going to cause real world decentralization generally. The sociotechnical implications of this are not well understood after ~200 years of increasingly higher scale centralization resulting in nation states.

GM.. Satoshi was a fucking genius.

I mean, literally, that the bits of information secured on the Bitcoin network can be used to represent any kind of information. The Bitcoin protocol is a new kind of internet architecture that simply has a physically constrained state-space.

Instead of an internet architecture where bits of information are trivial to create, it's an internet architecture where the bits of information are intentionally difficult to create and send.

People don't understand Bitcoin this way because they are so used to abstracting away the complexity of machine code and what's happened at the bottom of the tech stack. All they do is focus on modern programming language at the top of the stack.. so they are blind the what's happening at the bottom.

GM

The legacy internet architecture is a broken, unrealistic, infinitely expanding state-space where literally none of us can tell what's "real" and what's not.
